• 5+ years of experience working as a backend engineer in a production environment.
• Deep experience building backend services using Java and modern JVM frameworks.
• Experience designing APIs and service-oriented systems.
• Experience working with relational databases and large datasets.
• Experience with distributed systems and event-driven architectures.
• Working proficiency with a modern reactive frontend framework (Angular preferred; Vue or React experience welcome) and TypeScript.
• Familiarity with containerized environments such as Docker and Kubernetes.
• Hands-on professional experience using AI coding assistants (Claude, Copilot, Cursor, or similar) as part of your regular workflow.
• Strong judgment about when to rely on AI tooling and when human review is essential — particularly around security, data handling, and financial workflows.
• Highly self-reliant — able to unblock yourself, make sound technical decisions independently, and lead initiatives end to end with minimal supervision.
• Strong debugging, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Experience in regulated industries, such as financial services or cannabis, is a plus.

• Leverage AI to understand unfamiliar codebases, investigate defects, evaluate implementation options, and identify potential edge cases or system impacts.
• Use AI tools responsibly, ensuring that proprietary data, customer information, credentials, and other sensitive material are handled in accordance with company security policies.
• Share effective AI workflows, reusable prompts, and best practices that improve engineering productivity and quality across the team, and evaluate emerging AI development tools worth adopting.

The Role

LeafLink is seeking a Senior Full Stack Engineer, backend-leaning, to help build and evolve the systems that power our financial services platform, who is passionate about working with teams that solve interesting, large-scale problems at a rapid pace. You’ll spend most of your time in backend services responsible for payment workflows, transaction processing, and integrations across the cannabis industry — while also shipping the user-facing surfaces those systems drive.

As LeafLink expands its platform capabilities, this role will design and implement scalable, reliable, and secure backend systems and own features end to end, from API to UI. This is a strong fit for a backend-heavy engineer who is comfortable in the frontend and wants full ownership of the features they ship. You’ll operate with a high degree of autonomy — taking ambiguous problems, breaking them down, and driving them to resolution without needing close oversight.

AI-assisted development is part of our daily workflow at LeafLink. We use tools like Claude across prototyping, code review, debugging, and documentation, and we expect our engineers to leverage them fluently — moving faster while owning the correctness, security, and quality of everything that ships.

Base salary range

$145,000 — $200,000 USD
