Zusammenfassung

SES Satellites is seeking a Senior MBSE Engineer for the IRIS2 Satcom program in Munich/Unterföhring to design and model the system architecture of a MEO satellite constellation and its ground segment.

You will own end-to-end requirements, drive verification strategies, and collaborate with RF, payload, spacecraft, and ground teams in a fast‑paced European program.

Qualifikationen

  • Master’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Telecommunications, MBSE, or related field.
  • Strong proficiency in MBSE languages (SysML, Arcadia) and tools (Capella, Rhapsody, Matlab System Composer).
  • Experience with space systems MBSE modelling and 5G/LTE knowledge is a plus.

Programme Description

IRIS2 is the new European Union secure satellite constellation. This project is the European Union's answer to the pressing challenges of tomorrow to provide secure connectivity services and enhanced communication capacities to the EU and its Member States. In addition, as well as to governmental users, private companies and European citizens while benefiting from ensuring high-speed internet broadband to cope with connectivity dead zones.

Role Description Summary

We are seeking a Satellite Communications Systems MBSE Engineer to play a key role in the design, integration, and delivery of a Medium Earth Orbit (MEO) satellite constellation and its associated ground system. The program delivers broadband services notably using cutting‑edge technologies such as advanced on‑board digital processing or 3GPP 5G Non‑Terrestrial Networks (NTN) protocols, requiring close coordination across space, ground, and terrestrial network domains.

This role sits at the space system level and is ideal for an engineer who enjoys owning end‑to‑end technical performance, driving requirements, and solving complex cross‑domain problems.

Primary Responsibilities / Key Result Areas
  • Develop models using model‑based systems engineering (MBSE) methods to contribute to the system‑level architecture, design and concept of operations for a MEO satellite communications system, focussing on the space segment in relations with the ground and user segments
  • Develop models following MBSE methods to contribute to the design, specification and integration of the main payload and ancillary hosted payloads
  • Contribute to the definition and review of system requirements across satellites, gateways, network functions, and terminals
  • Collaborate with RF, payload, spacecraft, ground infrastructure, and software teams to ensure cohesive system performance
  • Support ground system design, including gateways, mission control, and interfaces to terrestrial networks
  • Support the definition of system verification and validation (V&V) strategies, including simulations, test campaigns
  • Interface with customers, partners, and external stakeholders on system design and operational topics
  • In the execution of these tasks, you will be supported by experts from the Project team.
COMPETENCIES
  • Strong ability to break down complex systems, interfaces and operational workflows into legible and accurate models with model‑based systems engineering languages, methods and tools
  • Very good mastery of telecommunication systems, the knowledge of space and ground satellite communications systems technologies and architectures being an asset
  • Knowledge of regulatory and spectrum considerations for satellite systems
  • Fluency in English (any other language being an asset)
  • Solid communication skills and team spirit
Qualifications Background And Experience
  • Master’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Telecommunications, MBSE, or related field
  • Strong and tangible proficiency in system modeling with MBSE languages (e.g. SysML), methods (e.g. Arcadia) and software tools (e.g. Capella, IBM Engineering Rhapsody, Matlab System Composer)
  • Solid experience in space systems modelling with MBSE methodologies
  • Experience with 5G or LTE network architectures is considered as an asset
Other Key Requirements / Comments
  • The candidate must be eligible for a “SECRET” security clearance, in accordance with the national regulations as well as EU/ESA/NATO equivalents
  • Willing to work 60% onsite from office
  • Travel as required for project realization purposes
