SumUp is seeking an experienced Platform/DevOps Engineer to join the Fleet team in Berlin. You will own Terraform modules and production Kubernetes clusters (EKS), while driving security, reliability, and on-call initiatives.

You’ll mentor engineers and help improve CI/CD and tooling to speed product delivery. You’ll collaborate with Security and other tribes to ensure PCI DSS and SOC2 compliance, build scalable automation, and improve developer experience across the business.

Qualifikationen

• 8+ years of experience in DevOps, platform, or infrastructure engineering.
• Hands-on experience with Kubernetes in production and Terraform.
• Strong AWS knowledge (EC2, VPC, IAM) and CI/CD
• Ability to design, implement, and share best practices across teams; security/compliance focus (PCI DSS/SOC2).

Team description

Our Platform Tribe builds Fleet, the infrastructure foundation that every engineering team at SumUp relies on to ship safely and quickly. Fleet gives teams a stable, self-service platform, built on AWS, Kubernetes and Terraform, so they can focus on their products instead of infrastructure bottlenecks. As part of the Cloud Infrastructure team, you'll take ownership of critical platform services, help modernise how we run Kubernetes at scale, and support engineers across the business as they build on top of what you maintain. If you enjoy solving complex infrastructure problems that quietly power everything else, this is where that work happens.

What you'll do

• Design and maintain Terraform modules and infrastructure patterns that other engineering teams build on
• Manage production Kubernetes (EKS) clusters, including performance tuning and service mesh implementation
• Lead security and compliance work across frameworks such as PCI DSS and SOC2, partnering with the Security team
• Define and monitor service reliability metrics, take part in on-call rotation, and drive improvements after incidents
• Improve developer experience through automation, better CI/CD pipelines, and clearer documentation
• Mentor other engineers on the team and contribute to technical design discussions

You’ll be great for this role if…

• At least 8 years of experience in DevOps, platform, or infrastructure engineering
• Proven hands-on experience in software development (Go preferred, but anyone would be good)
• Experience designing and maintaining infrastructure as code, ideally with Terraform
• Strong knowledge of Kubernetes in production, including cluster operations and troubleshooting
• Hands-on experience with core AWS services such as EC2, VPC, IAM, and load balancing
• Comfort working within security and compliance requirements without slowing teams down
• Ability to mentor other engineers and explain technical decisions clearly to different audiences
