DataX Connect is seeking an Electrical Design Manager to shape how data centres are designed and delivered across Europe. You will influence engineering standards, work with senior leadership and clients, and own critical electrical design decisions from concept to handover.

The role offers visibility, ownership, and the chance to lead across multiple projects in a growing European portfolio, with travel across Europe as needed.

• Act as a Subject Matter Expert for electrical engineering across the European data centre portfolio.
• Provide technical leadership across electrical design from concept through handover.
• Review, challenge and approve electrical design solutions produced by consultants, contractors and project teams.
• Own and develop electrical engineering standards, design principles and Basis of Design requirements.
• Provide specialist guidance across MV/LV distribution, resilience, redundancy, UPS, generators, protection, power quality and critical power systems.
• Lead technical discussions and resolve complex electrical engineering issues across live projects.
• Support early-stage development, feasibility and technical due diligence for new data centre projects.
• Act as a senior technical interface with customers, including RFP responses and technical workshops.
• Work closely with Mechanical, CSA, Operations, Construction and Commercial teams to ensure integrated and buildable solutions.
• Evaluate new technologies and engineering approaches that can improve resilience, efficiency, cost or speed of deployment.
• Support commissioning and technical assurance to ensure completed facilities meet design intent.
• Provide senior leadership with clear visibility of technical risks, decisions and opportunities across the portfolio.

About the Client

We’re working in partnership with a long-standing client to appoint an Electrical Subject Matter Expert into their Design & Solutions team, supporting a growing portfolio of data centre developments across Europe.

This is an opportunity for an experienced Electrical Design Manager, Principal Engineer or Electrical Lead who wants to step beyond individual project delivery and become a key technical authority within the business.

The company has an established European data centre platform but remains agile enough that its senior technical specialists have genuine influence. You won’t simply be reviewing designs against an existing standard. You’ll help define what good electrical design looks like across the portfolio, challenge engineering decisions, support customer solutions and influence projects from early development through to operational handover.

Working within the Design & Solutions team, you will act as the Electrical SME, providing technical leadership across multiple projects and becoming a trusted point of escalation for complex electrical engineering matters.

Key Responsibilities

• Act as a Subject Matter Expert for electrical engineering across the European data centre portfolio


• Provide technical leadership across electrical design from early concept and feasibility through detailed design, construction, commissioning and handover


• Review, challenge and approve electrical design solutions produced by consultants, contractors and project teams


• Own and develop electrical engineering standards, design principles and Basis of Design requirements


• Provide specialist guidance across MV/LV distribution, resilience, redundancy, UPS, generators, protection, power quality and critical power systems

About You

We’re looking for someone with deep electrical engineering expertise within data centres or similarly complex mission-critical environments.

You are likely to be working today as an Electrical Design Manager, Principal Electrical Engineer, Electrical Lead, Technical Manager or Electrical SME and looking for an opportunity with greater technical ownership and influence.

You should bring:

• Strong experience designing and delivering electrical infrastructure for data centres or mission-critical facilities


• Deep knowledge of MV/LV power distribution and critical electrical systems


• Experience reviewing and challenging complex electrical designs rather than simply coordinating their delivery


• Strong understanding of resilience, redundancy and availability within critical environments


• Experience working across multiple stages of the project lifecycle


• The confidence to act as a technical authority and defend engineering decisions with customers, consultants and contractors


• Strong communication skills and the ability to translate complex engineering issues for non-technical stakeholders


• A collaborative approach, comfortable working across design, construction, operations and commercial teams


• Degree qualification in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline


• Chartered Engineer status, or equivalent technical standing, would be advantageous


• Willingness to travel across Europe approximately once per month
