Zalando GmbH is seeking a Senior Applied Scientist for the Pricing Platform in Berlin. You will develop ML models and algorithms that power our algorithmic pricing, tackling large-scale forecasting with deep learning and gradient boosted trees.

Qualifikationen

• Master's degree or PhD in a quantitative field such as CS, Math, Physics or Statistics.
• Strong mathematical background and analytical skills.
• Deep expertise in ML methods (DL, gradient boosted trees) with production-grade experience in PyTorch, TensorFlow or LightGBM.
• Solid foundations in machine learning and forecasting, incl. high-dimensional DL forecasting.
• Exceptional Python coding skills for complex data science problems.
• Experience with reproducible research using MLflow or Weights & Biases.

Aufgaben

• Develop industry-leading, article-level demand forecasting models powering Zalando's pricing platform.
• Leverage deep learning (NLP, sequence modelling) for high-dimensional forecasting problems.
• Drive ML operations, data analysis and model deployment in production with Databricks.
• Test hypotheses using scientific methods and collaborate with Data Scientists, Engineers and PMs.
• Monitor impact of the pricing solution across the platform.

THE ROLE AND THE TEAM

As a Senior Applied Scientist in the Pricing Platform department, you will develop machine learning models and algorithms that build the backbone of our algorithmic pricing solution. Your contributions will be pivotal to our mission of building a cutting-edge algorithmic pricing solution, where you will leverage deep learning and gradient boosted trees to solve large-scale forecasting problems. While this solution is essential for optimizing profit and managing the stock risk across all articles on the Zalando platform, it presents significant challenges due to the scale and seasonality of our inventory. You will collaborate with fellow Data Scientists to tackle complex challenges at the intersection of machine learning, causal inference, and operations research. By applying innovative methods derived from cutting-edge research, you will elevate the team's capabilities and contribute to Zalando's vibrant Applied Science community, with extensive opportunities for professional growth through cross-functional collaboration.

WHERE YOUR EXPERTISE IS NEEDED

• Apply your machine learning expertise to develop industry-leading, article-level (500k+) demand forecasting models that power Zalando’s algorithmic pricing platform.
• Leverage your deep learning expertise (e.g., NLP, Sequence Modelling) to develop novel solutions for high-dimensional forecasting problems.
• Drive ML operations, comprehensive data analysis, and model deployment within production environments by utilizing Databricks as your primary platform.
• Apply your scientific expertise to create and test hypotheses.
• Work closely with Data Scientists, Software Engineers and Product Managers to analyze and monitor the impact of our algorithmic pricing solution.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

• Master’s Degree or PhD. in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics or other similar quantitative field
• Strong mathematical background and analytical skills
• Deep expertise in machine learning methods such as deep learning and gradient boosted trees, with extensive hands‑on experience using frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow or LightGBM to build production‑grade models
• Strong foundational knowledge in machine learning
• Expertise in forecasting methodologies, ideally with a specialized focus on developing high‑dimensional deep learning based forecasting models
• Exceptional Python coding skills and a track record of applying them to solve complex data science and engineering problems.
• Commitment to generating reproducible scientific results by leveraging state-of-the-art tools and methodologies like MLflow and Weights & Biases.
