About the Team

We are building a new AI team within Engineering, tasked with driving AI adoption across 1GLOBAL. The team’s primary mission is to design and operate an internal AI and knowledge platform that makes our collective knowledge accessible, searchable, and actionable. Beyond the internal platform, the team will contribute AI‑powered capabilities to our commercial product lines.

You will be one of the first engineers on this team, working alongside a dedicated product manager. This is a foundational hire: you will set the technical direction, make early architectural decisions, and build the systems that the rest of the AI function will grow on.

About the Role

• Design and build 1GLOBAL’s internal AI platform: RAG pipelines, vector search infrastructure, and conversational interfaces.
• Evaluate, integrate, and operate large language models (open‑source and cloud‑hosted) in production, balancing accuracy, latency, and cost.
• Build secure ingestion and indexing pipelines for internal knowledge sources (Confluence, SharePoint, document repositories, internal APIs) with appropriate access controls.
• Develop backend services and APIs that expose AI capabilities to internal users and, over time, to product teams building customer‑facing features.
• Establish engineering standards for the AI function: testing, deployment, monitoring, and model evaluation frameworks.
• Own the full development lifecycle from requirements through production monitoring, with a bias toward shipping and iterating.

About You

• 5+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 2 years focused on AI/ML systems in production.
• Hands‑on experience building RAG pipelines, working with vector databases (Pinecone, Weaviate, Elasticsearch, or similar), and integrating LLMs into backend services.
• Strong backend engineering skills: API design, microservices, production operations at scale. Proficiency in Python expected.
• Practical experience with LLM fine‑tuning, prompt engineering, and evaluation methodologies.
• Comfortable with CI/CD, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and infrastructure‑as‑code.
• Familiarity with data security practices (PII handling, access controls, data classification). Experience in regulated environments (financial services, telecommunications, ISO 27001) is an advantage.
• Telecommunications domain knowledge is a plus but not required.
• Strong communicator who can explain technical trade‑offs to non‑technical stakeholders. Fluent in English.
• Self‑directed and comfortable with ambiguity. You will be shaping the function, not joining a mature one.
