Leidos in Huntsville, AL, is seeking a senior navigation software engineer to lead cross‑domain teams and drive the development, simulation, analysis, and field testing of navigation algorithms for autonomous robotic systems.

You will integrate sensors and computing platforms, deploy real‑time algorithms, and enhance software architecture. You will present results to customers and colleagues, with travel 1–2 weeks per trip, 3–4 times yearly, and potential for limited telework.

Qualifikationen

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical/computer/aerospace engineering or equivalent with 8+ years of experience or master’s with 6+ years.
  • Experience programming in C/C++ with Python or MATLAB.
  • Linux operating system familiarity; US citizen able to obtain Secret clearance.

Description

The Contested Autonomy and Navigation Branch, part of the Non-Kinetic Effects Business Area within the Defense Sector at Leidos, provides cutting-edge navigation solutions for customers operating in environments where GPS alone isn't reliable and we're looking for your help in Rocket City (Huntsville, AL)!

This position offers your next career progression. Step into a role leading functional teams with continued career advancement potential. Handle leading and directing both analytic and hands‑on tasks, including development, simulation, analysis, and field testing of navigation algorithms supporting autonomous robotic operations. We perform research, development, and advanced prototyping for DARPA, NASA, Air Force Research Laboratory, Office of Naval Research, and Army Combat Capabilities Development Command engineering centers. These customers need to get our advanced technology into the field! You'll work with other engineers in small teams using spiral or agile development to meet aggressive schedules aimed at near‑term field demonstrations. Please note: This role is located in Huntsville, AL. There may be opportunity to telework up to 1 day/week.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Lead small teams of cross-domain engineers spanning electrical, computer, mechanical, and software.
  • Integrate sensors and computing platforms over various electrical interfaces (e.g. RS232, RS422, SPI, I2C, TCP/IP, etc)
  • Deploy novel algorithms for optimal estimation and/or computer vision to various processing architectures for real‑time execution
  • Enhance software architecture with software design, programming, and code reviews
  • Lead field demonstrations and customer interfacing with additional engineering support.
  • Travel with the team to demonstrate systems in real‑world conditions; typically lasts 1-2 weeks and occurs 3-4 times a year.
  • Present techniques, solutions, and results to the team and to customers.
Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in advanced technical field (electrical engineering, computer engineering, aerospace engineering, or equivalent) and 8+ years of prior relevant experience or master's degree with 6+ years of prior relevant experience.
  • Experience programming in C/C++ with additional experience in Python or MATLAB
  • Linux operating system familiarity
  • US Citizen able to obtain & maintain a Secret security clearance after hiring.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's or PhD Degree in one of the majors listed above.
  • Experience interfacing to sensors such as inertial sensors, GPS, altimeters, cameras, LiDAR, odometers, etc.
  • Experience deploying navigation algorithms to real‑time applications.
  • Experience with Linux, C++, and/or Python.
  • Experience with version control tools, especially Git and Gitlab.
  • Experience with autonomous system development through robotics competitions.
  • Existing US security clearance (Secret or above).
Pay Range:

Pay Range $107,900.00 - $195,050.00
