Organizational context: The International Organization for Migration (IOM), a UN-related agency since 1951, champions humane and orderly migration globally. It collaborates with governments and NGOs to save lives, protect migrants, resolve displacement, and facilitate legal migration pathways. This role is within the Research Unit, reporting to the Senior Research Officer/Unit Lead, and focuses on the World Migration Report series.

Job purpose: This role is integral to IOM's mission of promoting humane and orderly migration by contributing to its flagship World Migration Report (WMR) series. The Research Officer will be responsible for the development, design, preparation, and coordination of the WMR, ensuring its quality and impact. By supporting the production and dissemination of this key publication, the role directly contributes to IOM's efforts to provide data, analysis, and guidance on migration issues to governments and stakeholders worldwide. The position also supports knowledge management and capacity building within IOM related to migration research.

Responsibilities: Support the development, design, preparation, and coordination of the World Migration Report (WMR) series, collaborating with internal and external contributors. Draft key sections of WMRs, co-author thematic chapters, and participate in data verification. Contribute to the development and update of WMR interactive tools and toolkits. Assist in WMR dissemination and communication activities, including web content, social media, and events. Support the creation of online knowledge management tools and WMR webinar series. Provide technical guidance to regional and country offices on migration research outputs. Assist in writing, proofreading, and editing various research products to enhance the use of migration data. Organize and support internal knowledge-sharing activities on research. Undertake duty travel as required for WMR promotion and dissemination.

Education: A Master's degree in Migration Studies or a related Social Science field (International Relations, Development Studies, Humanitarian Affairs, Political Science) with two years of relevant experience, OR a Bachelor's degree in the same fields with four years of relevant professional experience. Degrees must be from accredited institutions.

Work experience: Demonstrated experience in writing papers, briefings, and articles on migration, with a publishing record being an asset. Experience in conducting migration research and presenting findings to diverse audiences. Proven ability to explain complex migration information and data. Experience collaborating with teams and external partners to achieve shared objectives.

Skills: Excellent research, writing, communication, and analytical skills. Proven ability to publish on migration in policy and academic contexts. Strong drafting abilities in English (oral and written) with attention to detail. Team-oriented with the capacity for independent work. Demonstrated organizational and time management skills, with the ability to meet tight deadlines. Understanding of migration issues across various geographic locations. Good computer literacy.
