Jobbeschreibung

Levion is a space technology company developing hardware to produce space‑grown, high‑quality semiconductor crystalline material for applications in radiation detection, medical imaging, and other high‑performance sectors. Our flight‑ready payload is targeting launch in 2028.

We are a small, high‑output team working across the full development cycle — from system design and ESA review through to flight qualification. As we move from Preliminary Design Review (PDR) into Critical Design Review (CDR) preparation, we are looking for a hands‑on working student to support our mechanical and thermal engineering workstreams.

Mission & Responsibilities

As Program & Business Development Manager for Microgravity Materials, you will drive the institutional and programmatic backbone of our in‑space materials roadmap. Your responsibilities include:

  • Executing the materials roadmap - coordinating the steps that ultimately lead to the first commercially viable in‑space–produced materials.
  • Coordinating with supporting agencies - serving as the primary interface to ESA, DLR, EIC, and relevant national or regional partners.
  • Securing and delivering institutional programmes - leading bid preparation and execution for ESA CASE, ESA BSGN, EIC, and related funding instruments.
  • Acquiring further programmes - identifying and shaping additional institutional opportunities as the materials and payloads track expands.
  • Maintaining programme structure - ensuring documentation, reporting, timelines, and deliverables are consistently met across all materials‑related activities.
  • Coordinating partners - supporting collaboration with research institutions, microgravity providers, and ecosystem stakeholders to ensure smooth execution.
  • Shaping the business side of the programme: define and refine the business model, identify target markets and use cases, and secure early adopters and pilot customers (e.g. via LOIs/MOUs)

This is a role for someone who brings clarity, structure, and ownership to a multi‑year institutional roadmap - and who can keep agency programmes, partners, and internal teams aligned as the materials track scales.

What we are looking for:

Required:

  • Experience in programme or project management for complex R&D or technology programmes.
  • Proven track record working with institutional funding bodies (e.g., ESA, DLR, EU/EIC, national agencies) — either running programmes or preparing bids, ideally both.
  • Strong capability in documentation, reporting, timelines, and deliverables — able to run institutional projects end‑to‑end with discipline.
  • Experience coordinating multi‑party technical ecosystems (research institutes, suppliers, agencies, industry partners).
  • High clarity and ownership — able to structure ambiguity, drive progress, and keep stakeholders aligned.
What we offer:
  • A high‑ownership role shaping Europe’s in‑space materials capability.
  • Direct responsibility for flagship ESA, DLR, and EU programs.
  • Autonomy in a fast‑moving, deeptech environment.
  • Close collaboration with leading European partners (ESA, DLR, FTMC).
  • Flexible hybrid setup; periodic travel in Europe.
  • Competitive compensation.
Diversity & Encouragement to Apply

Research shows that people from underrepresented groups are statistically less likely to apply for a role unless they meet every single requirement listed. If that's you — but you're genuinely excited about building Europe's in‑space materials capability — we'd strongly encourage you to apply anyway. We care more about drive and capability than a perfect match on paper.

We believe diversity of background and perspective drives better engineering and better decisions, and we welcome applications regardless of gender, age, nationality, disability, religion, or sexual orientation. Severely disabled applicants will be given preference where equally qualified.
