Chess.com is seeking a Product Designer to shape high-impact experiences for Home, Profile, Notifications, and more across web, iOS, and Android. You will collaborate with Product, Engineering, and other designers to deliver polished interfaces for millions of players worldwide.

You’ll own features from problem framing through implementation, using our design system to balance engagement with clarity. A strong portfolio and remote collaboration skills are essential in a fully distributed team.

Qualifikationen

• 2-3 years of experience designing consumer-facing products or games.
• A portfolio with polished UI for web and mobile showing personal contribution.
• Strong UI fundamentals: typography, color, layout, hierarchy, alignment, contrast, interactivity.
• Experience with a design system using tokens, components, patterns.
• Familiarity with frontend development and how design translates to code.
• Experience using AI-assisted tools like Cursor and Claude for prototyping.
• Clear written and verbal communication in a remote distributed team.

About the Role

As a Product Designer in Connect, you’ll help design and iterate on high-impact experiences for some of our most important and visible features like Home, Profile, Notifications, Widgets, Friends, Messages, Sharing, and more. You'll work with Product, Engineering, and other Product Designers to craft polished and engaging experiences across web, iOS, and Android for millions of players across the world.

About You

You’re a curious, craft-focused Product Designer who enjoys turning product problems into polished, intuitive interfaces. You’re interested in how people connect and designing fun and healthy ways for them to build relationships.

You ask thoughtful questions, welcome feedback, and are comfortable collaborating from early problem definition through implementation. You care about the details, communicate clearly, and work proactively in a highly visible, globally distributed environment.

What You’ll Do

• Design polished, production-ready user interfaces for Chess.com apps across web, iOS, and Android.
• Own the design of projects from early problem definition through implementation, helping ensure strong design-to-code alignment throughout the process.
• Partner with Product Designers, Product Managers, Engineers, and other stakeholders to define requirements, explore design directions, and build effective product experiences together.
• Use Chess.com design patterns and our established design system to create responsive, interactive experiences that balance engagement with simplicity.
• Create and iterate on prototypes using agentic tools like Cursor and Claude, to communicate complex ideas efficiently and rapidly iterate on them.
• Present your work and explain your design decisions using clear rationale, user insights, and product context.
• Participate proactively in our Slack-heavy remote environment, ask questions early, suggest meaningful improvements, and contribute constructive feedback to the design team.

Skills / Qualifications

• 2-3 years of experience working as a Product Designer on a consumer-facing product or game.
• A portfolio that shows polished UI design for web and mobile apps that clearly demonstrates your personal contribution.
• Strong command of UI design fundamentals, including typography, color, layout, visual hierarchy, alignment, contrast, and interactivity.
• Experience working with an established design system using tokens, components, and design patterns.
• Familiarity with frontend development and how design translates into code.
• Experience using AI-assisted tools like Cursor and Claude to prototype and iterate on ideas.
• Strong written and verbal communication, collaboration, ownership, and follow-through in a remote, globally distributed team.

Preferred / Nice to Haves

• A love for chess and knowledge of Chess.com and its product experience.
• Experience designing social features for mobile games or consumer products.
• Motion design experience, with strong product and UI design craft as the foundation.
• Design engineering or frontend development experience on web, iOS, or Android.

About the Opportunity

• This is a full-time position.
• We are 100% remote (work from anywhere!).
• This position is open to applicants globally and requires at least 3 hours of overlap with U.S. working hours.
