Job Description
The American Academy in Berlin is seeking a Library & Archive Manager (m/w/d) to join their team. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the library and archive, including document acquisition, lending, and networking with external libraries and archives.
Responsibilities:
- Organization of document acquisition, lending, and networking with external libraries and archives
- Leadership and development of the in-house library, including cataloging, collection development, inventory, and weeding
- Maintenance of the in-house archive (program, photo, and cultural archive)
- Scientific research and information services for fellows and internal users
- Budget responsibility and optimization of internal processes and interfaces
- Personnel management and capacity planning for a part-time student employee
- Collaboration on department-related projects
Requirements:
- University degree in library and information science, information management, library science, cultural or media management with in-depth interdisciplinary knowledge and a strong affinity for humanities and social sciences
- Several years of relevant professional experience, ideally in an academic environment
- Proficiency in research techniques, scientific methods, and project management
- Excellent communication skills, intercultural competence, and quick comprehension
- Very good German and English language skills in writing and speaking
- High digital affinity for the development of standards, processes, and tools
- Very good knowledge of library systems (preferably Koha), cataloging standards (PICA, MARC), and the Library of Congress system
- Good knowledge of the Berlin library and archive landscape is an advantage
- Driver's license is an advantage
