About Our Client

We are currently recruiting on behalf of a leading international MEP and building services engineering consultancy. Driven by rapid growth in the European tech sector, our client is expanding its footprint in Germany to support major hyperscale data center developments, most notably working directly with top-tier global accounts in Frankfurt.

To establish a long-term footprint, they are looking to hire a Lead Mechanical Design Engineer based in or regularly available to work in Frankfurt. This individual will serve as the "Face of the Business" in Germany, heading up local mechanical design engineering, driving client engagement, and championing the growth of their internal German team.

The Role & Key Responsibilities:

As the primary mechanical authority in Germany, you will provide hands‑on technical leadership alongside strategic client engagement, guiding hyperscale data center projects through all RIBA design stages from initial concept to final commissioning.

Technical Leadership & Mechanical Design:

• Lead the mechanical discipline on complex, large-scale data center developments.
• Deliver high-performance, resilient infrastructure aligned with international best practice.
• Oversee power distribution coordination and thermal management strategies across multi-disciplinary MEP teams.
• Act as the lead technical point of contact and client front-person for key global accounts.
• Lead design review meetings, manage customer relationships, and translate client requirements into tailored, buildable design solutions.
• Represent the business locally to drive brand awareness and expand client relationships across Germany.

Team Development & Regional Capability:

• Spearhead the creation and development of a permanent local engineering team on the ground in Germany.
• Resource and direct multi-project engineering teams, supporting international staff through structured 1:1 mentoring, performance reviews, and career development.

Quality Assurance & Governance:

• Maintain rigorous quality control and design governance standards across all project deliverables.
• Ensure strict adherence to German and European engineering codes (EN, DIN, BS, and IEC standards).

Who We Are Looking For:

• Technical Background: Proven background as a Senior, Lead, or Principal Mechanical Engineer specialising in Building Services / MEP design.
• Sector Expertise: Direct experience in Data Centers or high-reliability Mission Critical environments (e.g., pharmaceutical plants, hospitals, cleanrooms).
• Language Requirements: Fluent German speaker (essential for local client-facing and authority management) with strong professional English skills.
• Leadership Attributes: An assertive front-person comfortable managing clients, leading technical workshops, and driving business growth.
