Overview

GovCIO is currently hiring for a Journeyman Windows System Administrator specializing in Windows Server, VMware virtualization, automation, and Remote Desktop Services (RDS) in support of a mission‑critical U.S. Coast Guard program. This position is based in Kearneysville, WV and is a hybrid position.

Responsibilities

• Install, configure, and maintain Windows Server environments (2016, 2019, and newer), ensuring system reliability, security, and optimal performance.
• Manage and administer VMware vSphere environments, including ESXi hosts, vCenter Server, virtual networking, storage integration, and VM lifecycle operations.
• Deploy, configure, secure, and troubleshoot Remote Desktop Services (RDS) infrastructures to support remote application and desktop delivery.
• Utilize TrueSight Server Automation (TSSA) for automated patching, configuration management, compliance enforcement, and workflow execution.
• Administer Active Directory, including Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, OU management, and domain health monitoring.
• Implement and maintain system security controls, apply hardening standards, and perform vulnerability remediation in accordance with DoD and USCG cybersecurity requirements.
• Monitor system performance, analyze logs, respond to alerts, and resolve advanced OS, virtualization, and hardware‑related issues.
• Support and test backup, recovery, and continuity operations to ensure data integrity and availability for mission‑critical systems.
• Create and maintain technical documentation including system configurations, diagrams, SOPs, runbooks, and troubleshooting guides.
• Collaborate with engineering, cybersecurity, network, and operations teams to support modernization efforts, ensure compliance, and improve system reliability.
• Provide support within UNCLAS and secure DoD network environments, ensuring adherence to all policy and security standards.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and assist junior administrators when needed.

Qualifications

High School with 6 - 9 years (or commensurate experience).

Required Skills and Experience

• Certifications: DoD 8570 IAT Level II (e.g., Security+ CE, CySA+)
• Experience installing, configuring, and administering Windows Server 2016–2019+ in enterprise environments.
• Strong experience managing VMware vSphere, ESXi hosts, vCenter operations, and virtual infrastructure troubleshooting.
• Skilled in GPO creation, DNS/DHCP management, domain troubleshooting, and directory service optimization.
• Experience deploying, managing, and supporting RDS environments including gateways, licensing, and session hosts.
• Hands‑on experience with TrueSight Server Automation (TSSA) for patching, configuration, and compliance enforcement.
• Strong understanding of DoD system hardening, STIG alignment, and vulnerability remediation.
• Ability to diagnose and resolve complex OS, virtualization, hardware, and network‑related issues.
• Ability to create detailed system documentation, runbooks, diagrams, and operational procedures.

Clearance Required: Active Secret Clearance

Preferred Skills and Experience

• Experience supporting DoD or U.S. Coast Guard systems or environments.
• Knowledge of automation using PowerShell for administrative and operational workflows.
• Experience with modernization efforts including virtualization upgrades, OS transitions, and infrastructure improvements.
• Working knowledge of enterprise compliance platforms, patch ecosystems, and vulnerability management processes.
• Certifications such as:
  • Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate
  • VMware Certified Professional (VCP‑DCV)
• Strong communication and collaboration skills for working with technical teams and leadership.
