Jobbeschreibung

The Space Flight Operations and Astronaut Training Department is the central institution for German space activities - from satellite missions for Earth observation, communication and space security, through to manned spaceflight, high-altitude research and exploration. We also work on innovative technologies to ensure we can master even the most challenging space projects of the future.

What You Expect

The Astronaut Training Department is fully integrated into the EAC team (European Astronaut Centre Team of the European Space Agency, ESA) under a cooperative agreement between DLR e.V. and ESA. The EAC team supports the three core areas of astronaut management, training and medical care, as well as the operation of the ISS ground segment at the EAC. The role will be based in the EAC IT Team, which (in accordance with ESA guidelines) fulfils several roles within ESA's complex ISS (International Space Station) programme. Following an induction period, your responsibilities will include the following:

Your task

  • Administrator for ESA/EAC non-corporate network facilities
  • Management of virtual server infrastructure for ISS operations and exploration-related projects
  • Providing and organising the necessary information technology for astronaut training and the HECC ground segment - with a focus on video and audio
  • Support for ISS crew (video) conferencing systems for conferences with the International Space Station (ISS)
  • Support for in-house training systems for face-to-face and distance learning
Your profile
  • A completed university degree (university of applied sciences/Bachelor's) in engineering (e.g. aerospace engineering, etc.) or the natural sciences (e.g. physics, etc.) or other degree programmes relevant to the role, such as computer science (e.g. Information and Communication Technology, etc.) or, alternatively, in-depth specialist knowledge and relevant professional experience
  • Professional experience in the provision of IT infrastructures, preferably in a research environment
  • Qualification as a network and systems administrator with many years' experience and sound technical expertise in the field of network components
  • Very good knowledge of the Windows Server environment, Cisco Catalyst and Linux system administration
  • Very good experience in the design, set-up and maintenance of multimedia infrastructure
  • Extensive experience in setting up and supporting training systems for both face-to-face and distance learning
  • Willingness to work shifts and be on call

Remuneration is based on qualifications and assigned duties, up to pay grade 12 of the TVöD Bund (Federal Civil Service Pay Scale).

Due to export control regulations, only applicants (m/f/d) from ESA member states as well as from Canada, Slovenia and the USA can be considered.

We look forward to getting to know you!
