Role Summary

The Head of Regulatory Relationship Management for State Street Bank International GmbH (SSBI) Germany is a senior leadership role responsible for leading SSBI regulatory relationship strategy and day-to-day supervisory engagement for the German bank. Based in Munich, this role serves as a principal liaison with key supervisory authorities, including the European Central Bank, BaFin, and the Deutsche Bundesbank.

As a part of the Global Regulatory Liaison Office (GRLO), this role contributes to fostering a positive regulatory culture and promoting proactive interaction with regulatory agencies globally. The role reports into the International Head of Regulatory Relationship Management and the International Head of Public Policy.

Direct experience either managing regulatory engagement within a G-SIB/G-SIFI and/ or serving as a banking supervisor/examiner overseeing such institutions, with a strong understanding of both supervisory expectations and practical execution within a regulated environment is a key success factor in this role.

This role will be performed in a hybrid model in Frankfurt or Munich, Germany.

Key Responsibilities
  • Regulatory Relationship Leadership: Lead and coordinate SSBI Germany's supervisory engagement model in line with GRLO program policies and procedures, maintaining credible, constructive relationships with the European Central Bank, BaFin, Deutsche Bundesbank, and other relevant authorities.
  • Supervisory Interaction Management: Oversee the preparation, coordination, and execution of regulatory meetings, reviews, examinations, and ongoing supervisory interactions in accordance with GRLO program policies and procedures, ensuring materials and messaging are clear, accurate, and aligned across stakeholders.
  • Strategic Advisory: Advise senior management and key control and business partners on supervisory priorities, regulatory themes, and engagement strategies, including briefing leaders for effective regulator interactions, ensuring that interactions are cohesive and unified and consistent with GRLO program expectations.
  • Regulatory Coordination and Governance: Establish and maintain governance, protocols, and coverage plans for regulatory interactions in alignment with GRLO program policies and procedures, including internal coordination across functions to support timely, consistent, and high-quality responses.
  • Regulatory Intelligence: Monitor developments across the German and European supervisory landscape, including changes arising from the Single Supervisory Mechanism and broader prudential expectations, and translate insights into actionable implications for the firm and the GRLO program.
  • Regulatory/Internal Reporting: Lead the preparation and delivery of reporting to senior governance committees on SSBI regulatory interactions, issue remediation progress, and overall regulatory posture.
  • Supervisory submissions: Collaborate with the three lines of defense and senior management to ensure responsive and timely supervisory submissions, including quality assurance reviews.
  • Team Leadership: Lead and develop a small team of professionals, fostering strong execution, collaboration, and a proactive regulatory culture consistent with GRLO program standards.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to distil complex supervisory topics into concise, actionable messages.
  • Fluency in both German and English.
Education & Preferred Qualifications
  • Direct experience either managing regulatory engagement within a G-SIB/G-SIFI and/ or serving as a banking supervisor/examiner overseeing such institutions, with a strong understanding of both supervisory expectations and practical execution within a regulated environment is a key success factor in this role.
  • Extensive experience (10+ years) in financial services, banking supervision, compliance, audit, risk management, or a related control function, with significant exposure to regulatory engagement.
  • Strong understanding of the German and European banking supervisory framework, including the roles of the European Central Bank, BaFin, and Deutsche Bundesbank within the Single Supervisory Mechanism.
  • Knowledge of banking products, prudential regulation, and supervisory processes relevant to a German credit institution is strongly preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, accounting, law, or a related discipline required; advanced degree preferred.
