Zalando’s Lounge by Zalando seeks a Full Stack Engineer for a 12-month fixed-term maternity cover. You’ll develop Kotlin BFF services and a React frontend to build personalised landing pages. Work alongside senior engineers, deploy to AWS, and own features end-to-end from day one.

Ideal candidates have 2–4 years of full‑stack experience, strong React and JVM skills, and a collaborative mindset. The role is based in Berlin with a cloud-first workflow and on-call practices.

THE ROLE & THE TEAM

Lounge by Zalando is an online shopping club for fashion and lifestyle products, serving millions of members across 20+ European markets through daily, time-limited sale campaigns. The Growth & Lifecycle team is the growth engine of Lounge — building the services that communicate compelling offers to millions of users daily, making sure each message reaches the right audience, at the right moment, in the most engaging way.

We’re looking for a Full Stack Engineer to join us on a fixed-term basis, covering a parental leave. Your focus will be our Kotlin Backend-for-Frontend (BFF) and its React frontend — the service that composes personalised, dynamic landing pages that turn marketing traffic into registered, active members. You’ll ship real features to production from day one, working alongside senior and principal engineers who’ll support you and help you grow, and you’ll own what you build end to end.

Your mandate: help deliver "the right message to the right people at the right time" — building and shipping the automation behind Lounge’s personalised landing pages.

*This is a 12 months fixed term maternity cover role.

WHAT WE’D LOVE YOU TO DO (AND LOVE DOING)

• Build and ship features: Develop and maintain features across our Kotlin Backend-for-Frontend and its React frontend, delivering working, testable, maintainable code to production in small, safe iterations.
• Work across the stack: Contribute to both the backend composition logic and the frontend experience of our automated, personalised landing pages, collaborating closely with senior engineers on the trickier pieces.
• Collaborate end to end: Work day to day with frontend and backend engineers, your product manager, and designers to turn requirements into shipped, seamless user experiences.
• Contribute to marketing automation: Help implement personalisation, targeting, and A/B testing features that make our landing pages smarter — learning the domain as you go.
• Operate what you build: Deploy and run your services in a cloud-first environment (AWS), supported by the team's tooling and on-call practices — at Lounge you build it, deploy it, and help keep it healthy.
• Grow your craft: Take feedback in code and design reviews, share what you learn, and steadily expand your toolkit with the support of the engineers around you.

WE’D LOVE TO MEET YOU IF YOU HAVE

• Solid full-stack experience: Around 2–4 years of professional software engineering, building backend services (ideally in Kotlin, or in Java/another JVM language with a real interest in switching to Kotlin) and modern frontends with React.
• Frontend fundamentals: Hands-on experience with React and the modern JavaScript/TypeScript ecosystem (ES6, bundlers such as Webpack/Vite, CSS or a preprocessor like LESS/SASS).
• Clean, testable code: You write readable, maintainable, well‑tested code and ship it in reviewable increments; you’re comfortable working within an existing codebase and improving it as you go.
• Cloud curiosity: Some exposure to — or genuine willingness to learn — AWS, Kubernetes, CI/CD, and infrastructure automation.
• A collaborative, pragmatic mindset: You communicate clearly with technical and non‑technical teammates, ask questions early, and care about the user impact of what you build.
