United States Digital Space LLC in Hamburg is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead a cross-functional team building the internal Content Tooling platform, enabling AI-assisted content production at scale. You will collaborate with a product manager to shape the roadmap and deliver scalable, cost-efficient solutions.

You will own interfaces between teams, drive engineering excellence, and guide migrations from legacy tools while promoting modern practices and responsible ownership.

Qualifikationen

• 3+ years of experience leading cross-functional, product-oriented engineering teams.
• Solid grasp of full-stack development, ideally with Java, React, and both relational and NoSQL databases.
• Strong understanding of distributed system design, particularly microservice architectures.
• Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset with senior engineers, product peers, and stakeholders.
• Familiarity with building applications on AWS.
• Bonus: experience developing GUI-heavy internal tools or platforms.

Your Role

As an Engineering Manager with a hands‑on mindset, you will lead a cross‑functional team responsible for the company's internal Content Tooling platform - a key enabler for our in‑house researchers and data engineers. In close collaboration with a strong Product Manager, you'll be at the forefront of building AI‑enabled content production at scale. Together, you’ll shape the roadmap, empower a senior engineering team, and deliver high‑quality, scalable, and cost‑efficient solutions.

Your Tasks

• Lead a team of backend, frontend, and QA engineers, creating a supportive environment where people can grow and do their best work.

• Carry a clear 12-18 month direction for the team and keep it intact when org priorities move.

• Own cross-team interfaces and dependencies so engineers can stay focused on the work.

• Drive engineering excellence and accountability for the stability, performance, and maintainability of the tools you build and own.

• Lead and deliver migration projects - the company has a long history of building internal tools; you'll work to consolidate what’s still valuable and phase out the obsolete.

• Bring modern AI‑assisted engineering practices into the team's workflow, with responsible review and clear ownership.

Your Profile

• 3+ years of experience leading cross‑functional, product‑oriented engineering teams

• Solid grasp of full‑stack development, ideally with Java, React, and both relational and NoSQL databases

• Strong understanding of distributed system design, particularly microservice architectures

• Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset - you build strong relationships with senior engineers, product peers, other engineering managers, and various stakeholders

• Familiarity with building applications on AWS

• Bonus: experience developing GUI-heavy internal tools or platforms
