Overview

This Engineering Lead (m/f/x) position in Berlin focuses on shaping the technical direction, ensuring scalability, security and reliability of digital products, and leading a talented engineering team to support company growth.

Responsibilities

• Define technological direction and strategy; align technology with business objectives; establish robust systems and processes.
• Lead and mentor the engineering team; foster a culture of innovation and collaboration; deliver outstanding user experiences with high engineering standards.
• Oversee projects and tickets with the Engineering Manager to predict execution timelines and ensure alignment with actual timelines.
• Own product delivery by building efficient, scalable processes in collaboration with the product team.
• Hire new developers, assess capacity, and make proactive staffing recommendations within budget.
• Conduct yearly goal setting, feedback, and development meetings for senior employees.
• Contribute to the company’s strategic development as part of the management team; communicate priorities to stakeholders including the product lead.
• Stay current with industry trends; encourage innovation and provide opportunities for team growth.
• Communicate company and project goals clearly to the engineering team.
• Technical priorities include: scalable expansion of the suitespot hotel search; improving load times for the reisetopia site and hotel search; development and expansion of financial comparison tools and new technical solutions.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional experience in full-stack development; minimum 3 years in a leadership role.
• Strong communication and proven team leadership capabilities.
• Excellent analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills.
• Experience with modern TypeScript, frontend libraries (React/Redux or similar), backend frameworks like Express, and databases such as MongoDB and Postgres.
• Experience with testing tools (Jest, Playwright, Selenium, or Cypress); knowledge in UI/UX; Next.js and rendering strategies.
• Ideally experience in WordPress development (plugins/themes); serverless functions (e.g., AWS Lambda); DevOps tools (GitHub Actions, Ansible, Jenkins, Docker).
• Experience managing complex projects and implementing process optimizations with measurable impact; scalable technical architecture; page speed and SEO optimization a plus.
• Experience in startup environments and agile teams is a plus; fluency in English; German language skills a plus.
