Job Description Summary

As a Lead Engineer in System Studies (m/f/d) you will serve as a technical authority for our HVDC business. You will drive the design, optimization, and integration of complex HVDC systems—from concept through to operation. This role sits at the intersection of business strategy and engineering excellence, balancing customer requirements with technical feasibility to deliver industry-leading energy solutions.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities

• System Design & Optimization:Develop integrated scheme designs that balance performance, cost, and functionality. Perform system-level requirements engineering, trade studies, and design verification.
• Technical Expertise:Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in:
  • Harmonics & Power Quality:AC/DC harmonic performance and stability for VSC/LCC schemes.
  • EMC/RFI:Electromagnetic compatibility and Radio Frequency Interference mitigation.
  • Filtering:Design and rating of AC, DC, and high-frequency harmonic filters.
• Leadership & Mentorship:Lead project-specific equipment specifications, mentor junior engineers to build high-performing HVDC talent, and contribute to global product development initiatives.
• Stakeholder Engagement:Represent GE Vernova before external clients, suppliers, and professional bodies (e.g., IEC, Cigré). Influence project outcomes through design reviews and technical negotiation.
• Innovation:Drive technical advancements by developing patents and publishing original research in global scientific forums.
• Safety & Quality:Champion EHS by identifying risks, promoting hazard reporting, and ensuring rigorous adherence to quality and safety standards.

Required Qualifications & Experience

• Education:Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Power Systems Engineering (or equivalent).
• Experience:10+ years of progressive professional experience in Power Systems Engineering, with significant expertise inHVDC System Studies.
• Technical Proficiency:Demonstrated experience in electrical power systems modeling, network analysis, and control systems.

Technical Competencies

• Modeling & Analysis:Proficiency in EMT software (PSCAD, EMTP-RV, ATP) and Power Network Analysis tools (PSS/E, DigSilent, Eurostag).
• Advanced Skills:Competence in MATLAB/Simulink, Python, and VBA for automation and data analysis.
• Domain Knowledge:Familiarity with HVDC valves, control systems, audible noise modeling (SoundPLAN), and Requirements Management (DOORS).
