Jobbeschreibung

About H2FLY

Join H2FLY, the leader in hydrogen-electric powertrain systems for aviation. Since 2015, we’ve been developing, integrating and testing hydrogen-electric powertrains and demonstrated several records including the world’s first piloted flight powered by liquid hydrogen.

Since 2021, we’re part of Joby Aviation, the leading developer of electric air taxis. Together, we’re accelerating the path toward quiet, zero-emission flight.

As part of our team, you will work hands‑on on cutting‑edge technology that is shaping the future of aviation. By harnessing the power of fuel cell technology, our team is at the forefront of making hydrogen‑electric flight a reality.

From engineers to software experts, our team spans different disciplines. We celebrate the different skills and perspectives everyone brings to the table and foster a work environment where new ideas can thrive.

Become part of the future of flight.

Responsibilities

We are seeking an Electrical Engineer (all genders) to join our team. In this role you take ownership for electronic components and play a key role from concept to implementation:

  • Take ownership of the development of high‑performance power electronics for fuel cell systems in aviation
  • Design, develop, and optimize key components such as DC‑DC converters, inverters, and power distribution units (PDUs)
  • Select and evaluate power semiconductors, magnetic components, and passive components with a strong focus on performance, efficiency, and reliability
  • Develop and implement PCB layouts for power electronics while considering EMI/EMC requirements and thermal constraints
  • Build and test prototypes in the lab and characterize their performance, including efficiency, control behavior, and transient response
  • Use simulation tools such as SPICE, PLECS, or PSIM to validate designs, optimize performance, and support sound engineering decisions
  • Collaborate closely with interdisciplinary teams, including mechanical, thermal, and manufacturing engineers, to successfully bring innovative products to market
  • Analyze technical challenges and design issues and work with quality and reliability teams to develop robust, long‑term solutions
Requirements
  • A completed degree in electrical engineering, power electronics, or a related field; a master’s degree or PhD is an advantage
  • More than 5 years of relevant professional experience, ideally in a high‑tech or demanding engineering environment
  • Strong foundation in electrical engineering with a focus on modern power electronics, including SiC and GaN technologies
  • Proven experience with fundamental principles and topologies of power electronics
  • Hands‑on experience in prototype development and manufacturing
  • Practical experience in both electrical and mechanical domains, with a strong problem‑solving mindset
  • Confident handling of laboratory equipment such as oscilloscopes, power analyzers, and electronic loads
  • Proficiency in circuit simulation tools (e.g. SPICE, Simba) and PCB design software (e.g. Altium)
  • Knowledge of EMI/EMC requirements and their implementation in power electronics design
  • Experience in developing control algorithms and firmware for digital power electronics is a strong plus
  • Highly self‑motivated, with the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in cross‑functional teams
  • Comfortable working with external suppliers and development partners
  • Very good written and spoken German and English skills
