About the Opportunity
A leading global technology and advanced mobility research organisation is seeking a Chief Engineer - Intelligent Vehicle Dynamics Control to drive the next generation of vehicle motion control systems for highly automated and electrified vehicles.
Based within a European advanced engineering and research centre, this role will shape future vehicle dynamics architectures, combining innovative control strategies, x-by-wire technologies and intelligent sensing systems to deliver step-change improvements in vehicle safety, stability and performance.
This is a senior technical leadership position requiring deep expertise in vehicle dynamics controls, strategic technology planning, and the development of high-performing engineering teams within an international R&D environment.
Key Responsibilities
Technology Leadership
- Lead the research and development of advanced vehicle dynamics control technologies, including integrated chassis control, intelligent control architectures, AI-driven control strategies and next-generation x-by-wire systems.
- Define future technology directions across vehicle motion control, evaluating emerging hardware and software innovations relevant to autonomous and electric vehicle platforms.
- Develop technology roadmaps that support both short-term product objectives and long-term research strategies.
- Drive innovation in sensing technologies, control architectures and system integration to enhance overall vehicle performance and safety.
Strategic Research & Industry Engagement
- Monitor industry developments, competitive technologies and academic research trends in vehicle dynamics and chassis systems.
- Produce technical assessments, market intelligence reports and strategic recommendations for senior stakeholders.
- Establish and maintain collaborations with leading universities, research institutes and automotive industry partners across Europe.
- Represent the organisation within relevant technical forums, industry bodies and research networks.
Technical & People Leadership
- Provide technical direction and mentorship to multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Lead cross-functional research programmes from concept through technology maturation.
- Partner with global engineering leadership to define and execute vehicle dynamics and performance strategies.
- Support team development, succession planning, capability building and project delivery excellence.
Candidate Profile
Essential Experience
- Master's degree or PhD in Automotive Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- 15+ years of experience in vehicle dynamics, chassis control systems or advanced automotive control system development.
- Recognised expertise in one or more of the following:
- Integrated Vehicle Dynamics Control
- Chassis Control Systems
- Motion Control
- Steer-by-Wire
- Brake-by-Wire
- Active Suspension
- Torque Vectoring
- Vehicle Stability Control
- AI-driven Vehicle Control Systems
- Demonstrated success leading technical teams and delivering advanced vehicle control technologies into production or pre-production programmes.
- Strong understanding of modern vehicle E/E architectures and software-defined vehicle trends.
