VirtusLab is searching for an experienced backend/DevOps engineer to lead a strategic migration of our CI/CD platform. Build migration & Open Source Transition
Project Scope The project involves managing a large-scale CI/CD infrastructure currently transitioning its build system to an Open Source model. The existing environment is hosted on Azure and utilizes CircleCI. The objective is migrating this entire ecosystem to GitHub Actions, merging private repositories into public ones to foster community collaboration.
This is a high-stakes environment supporting over 40 developers where “every minute counts.” The CI pipeline is large-scale – a single test run utilizing up to 30 machines – making performance and reliability critical success factors.
Strategic Migration: Architecting and executing the transition from CircleCI to GitHub Actions.
Scalability at Scale: Managing a complex CI handling 30-machine parallel test runs and optimizing it for maximum speed.
Repository Consolidation: Merging codebases into public Open Source repositories.
Ownership & Strategy: Providing end-to-end consulting, delivering the technical plan, testing solutions, and adjusting the strategy to ensure the final success of the migration.
5+ years of commercial experience in backend, DevOps, or platform engineering.
Proven track record in developing solutions centered around building tools, maintaining robust CI/CD pipelines, and optimizing the software development lifecycle.
Practical knowledge of Bazel or at least one other major build tool.
Deep understanding of the JVM ecosystem and related tooling/languages.
Strong communication skills combined with a pragmatic, results-oriented approach to problem-solving.
Seamless collaboration within a cross-functional, agile project environment.
Proactive problem-solving and efficient communication within the project ecosystem to ensure smooth delivery.
Flexibility regarding specific technologies (beyond JVM tools), with high value placed on a strong interest in build tools and maximizing developer productivity.
High autonomy in task execution, self-management, and independent delivery driving.
