We invite applications for the position of University Assistant (Postdoctoral) in the Faculty of Chemistry, starting 01.06.2025, with a 40-hour work week, under the collective bargaining agreement §48 VwGr. B1 lit. b (postdoc). The position is limited until it becomes permanent (reference no.: 3948).
Join us at the Institute for Physiological Chemistry within the Faculty of Chemistry, working in the research group of Marc Pignitter. The focus is on food chemistry and sustainable food systems, especially converting food industry waste into valuable ingredients to promote a circular economy. The institute offers excellent research facilities.
Your responsibilities include:
- Participating in research projects on food chemistry, monitoring oxidative processes and chemical reactions in food.
- Supervising and training students at various levels on food processing impacts on quality and safety.
- Applying extraction techniques for biological macromolecules from food matrices.
- Optimizing analytical methodologies, especially using mass spectrometry and NMR techniques.
- Identifying new markers through structural elucidation.
- Supporting project applications and securing third-party funding.
- Conducting courses related to food chemistry within the scope of the collective agreement.
- Performing administrative tasks in research and teaching.
Candidate profile:
- PhD in chemistry or related field, with focus on analytical food chemistry and lipid oxidation.
- Research experience demonstrated through publications and conference contributions.
- Expertise in analytical techniques, especially mass spectrometry and NMR.
- Knowledge in monitoring chemical reactions during food processing, including oxidative processes and Maillard reaction.
- Data analysis skills using R or Python, with experience in lipidomics or omics sciences.
- Experience in academic teaching and supervising students.
- Excellent English skills; German skills are a plus.
- Team-oriented with strong social and communication skills.
