Job summary

Robots & Pencils in Bogota, with remote-friendly options, is seeking a Staff Data Scientist to own the modeling work behind our hardest AI problems: framing business questions, building and validating models, and getting them into production.

You’ll work with scientists, data engineers, developers, and product partners, set the technical direction, mentor junior teammates, and drive end-to-end ML and GenAI projects from concept through production at scale.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional experience in data science and ML.
• PhD or Master’s with 4+ years in a quantitative field.
• Deep proficiency in Python or R and ML libraries.
• Experience in Java, C++, or related languages.
• Proven track record in production ML and data science projects.
• Experience with Databricks, AWS SageMaker, and Snowflake.
• Experience in Data Mesh architectures.
• Ability to design controlled experiments like A/B tests.
• Strong communication with executives.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and evaluate predictive models across domains.
• Drive end-to-end ML and GenAI projects from concept to production.
• Collaborate with scientists, data engineers, developers, and product partners.
• Mentor junior data scientists and build reusable assets.
• Explain methodology to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Lead technical direction within the team and across teams.
• Establish scalable data analysis and model deployment processes.
