Truelogic is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to design, build, and own production backend services as part of a major platform modernization initiative. - 5+ years of backend engineering experience with ownership of production services.
- Strong experience with Java and Go, including production use.
- Hands-on with AWS and Google Cloud, including managed services.
- Strong API design and distributed systems experience (REST/GraphQL/gRPC).
- Experience with authentication and identity systems (OAuth 2.0, OIDC, SSO).
- Experience migrating services away from third-party CMS or legacy platforms.
- Knowledge of production observability, logging, metrics, tracing.

We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to design, build, and own production backend services as part of a major platform modernization initiative. The team is moving core backend capabilities away from a third-party CMS platform and into independently owned services, starting with authentication and identity.
In this role, you will build scalable backend services that support a new headless frontend and other digital products, define APIs, lead service migrations, and ensure strong reliability and observability in production. The ideal candidate has strong Java and Go experience, hands-on experience with AWS and GCP, deep knowledge of authentication and distributed systems, and the autonomy to make sound technical decisions in complex environments. The team also operates with an AI-first development approach, leveraging AI coding assistants and agentic workflows to improve engineering productivity.
Design, build, and own production-grade backend services that replace capabilities currently provided by third-party CMS platforms.
Lead the design and implementation of a new authentication and identity service, including secure session and token management.
Define and implement APIs that support the headless frontend and other digital products.
Design solutions using REST, GraphQL, and/or gRPC and distributed systems principles.
Plan and execute service migrations from vendor or legacy platforms with minimal disruption to existing users and systems.
Build and operate cloud-native services across AWS and Google Cloud.
Ensure backend services meet requirements for reliability, scalability, performance, and observability.
Implement and maintain effective logging, metrics, and distributed tracing for production services.
Collaborate closely with the Platform Engineering Manager and other engineering stakeholders on technical decisions and implementation strategy.
Mentor a mid-level engineer and contribute to engineering standards and best practices.
Leverage and help shape AI-assisted and agentic development workflows across the team's engineering process.
Continuously evaluate and improve backend architecture, service reliability, and development practices.
5+ years of backend engineering experience, with senior-level ownership of production services.
Strong professional experience with Java and Go, including production experience with both.
Hands-on experience with AWS and Google Cloud, including managed services such as Cloud Run, GKE, Pub/Sub, Lambda, RDS, or equivalent technologies.
Strong understanding of API design and distributed systems, with experience using REST, GraphQL, and/or gRPC.
Strong experience with authentication and identity systems, including OAuth 2.0, OIDC, SSO, session management, and token management.
Experience migrating services or capabilities away from a third-party vendor, CMS, or legacy platform.
Strong understanding of production observability and reliability, including logging, metrics, and tracing.
Ability to design and deliver scalable, maintainable backend services with a high degree of autonomy.
Comfortable working in an AI-first engineering environment, using AI coding assistants and agentic development tools as part of the software development workflow.
Fluent English communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with senior technical stakeholders.
Experience building backend systems for media, publishing, or CMS platforms.
Experience with Brightspot or similar enterprise CMS platforms.
Experience designing event-driven architectures using technologies such as Kafka or Google Pub/Sub.
Experience with Infrastructure as Code, particularly Terraform.
Experience building high-traffic or cache-heavy systems using technologies such as CDNs or Redis.
Experience building AI/LLM-powered services or agentic workflows.
