Amadeus IT Group Colombia, S.A.S. is seeking a Senior Software Development Engineer to design and evolve key components of the ABR rule engine.
You will own technical solutions from design to production, tackling performance and scalability challenges in a high-transaction environment. You will mentor peers, promote TDD and CI/CD, and collaborate with application teams, architects, and product stakeholders to shape the platform and its roadmap.
Software Development Engineer Specialist ** ALL CVs MUST BE SUBMITTED IN ENGLISH
You will join the Amadeus Business Rules (ABR) team, part of the Business Automation portfolio within Amadeus' Configuration Platform. ABR is Amadeus' central rule engine and rule-management framework. It keeps business logic separate from application code, so travel applications and airlines can change business behavior and policies at runtime without new code deployments. ABR runs at large scale and is critical to the business. It powers more than 200 Amadeus applications, evaluates around 5 million business rules, and handles over 1 million transactions per second with evaluation latency of about 100 microseconds.
We evolve the platform through work like Forge migration, REST API enablement, cache scalability, and retiring legacy integrations.
We build and maintain the tools people use to design, view, and manage rules, including Rule Type Designer, ABR Viewer, the web and Java UIs, and batch and automation utilities.
We provide the ABR Client, REST/JSON and EDIFACT APIs that application servers and microservices use to evaluate rules.
We run QA, change control (CCB). We also invest in observability and AI-driven operational insights.
As a Senior Software Development Engineer in the Amadeus Business Rules (ABR) team, you will design, build, and evolve key parts of a high-performance rule engine. You will work independently with little supervision, own the technical solution from design to production, and be a technical reference for the team. You will take on complex technical problems in areas such as performance, scalability, and platform modernization. You will manage dependencies and risks across teams, and you may lead a working group on initiatives with several workstreams. You will influence technical decisions inside and outside the team and mentor other engineers. You will also promote good engineering practices such as test-driven development, code quality, and operational excellence.
In this role you’ll:
You're an experienced software engineer who enjoys solving hard technical problems and takes ownership of what you build. You're comfortable working on your own on complex, business-critical systems, and you care about quality, performance, and reliability in production.
Technical skills: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, a related field, or equivalent practical experience. 6-8 years of experience in backend software development, ideally on high-performance, low-latency, or large-scale distributed systems. A proven track record of designing and delivering large components or systems from start to finish, including running them in production. Experience with complex technical topics such as performance tuning, scalability, caching, or modernizing legacy system. C++ (modern standards): Strong hands‑on experience building high-performance, low-latency backend systems. C++ is the core language of the ABR rule engine. Java: Solid experience with Java backend development and Maven-based builds. Unix/Linux: Comfortable developing, debugging, and troubleshooting in Linux environments, including Shell scripting (Bash). Relational databases: Good knowledge of Oracle Database and SQL, using tools such as SQL*Plus and SQL Developer. Data formats and APIs: Experience with REST/JSON APIs and serialization formats such as Protocol Buffers and XML. Version control: Proficient with Git and Bitbucket, including branching strategies, code reviews, and submodules. Engineering practices: Test-driven development, unit and integration testing, CI/CD pipelines, and performance profiling and optimization.
Soft Skills: You take responsibility for your solutions, from design to production, with little supervision. You break complex problems down, find root causes, and make well‑reasoned technical trade‑offs. You believe in clean code, automated testing, TDD, and continuous improvement. You build trust with teams, architects, and stakeholders, and you can influence technical decisions and handle disagreements constructively. You enjoy sharing knowledge, reviewing code, and helping others grow. You keep up with new technologies and are open to new approaches, including AI and automation.
