Job summary

WSP en Colombia is seeking a Protection & Control Engineer for Hydro & Dams to analyze, design, and implement protection and control systems for hydroelectric and dam projects. You will work across phases from concept to commissioning, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams in a global context.

The ideal candidate has 6–9 years of relevant experience, strong knowledge of protection systems, and proficiency in English and French.

Qualifications

• Requires 6–9 years of professional experience in protection and control engineering.
• Experience with hydroelectric, dam, power generation, transmission, or substations projects preferred.
• Strong knowledge of IEC, IEEE, CSA, NEC, NERC standards.

Responsibilities

• Design protection and control systems for hydro facilities, dams, substations, and switchyards.
• Develop protection philosophies, relay settings, protection schemes, and control strategies.
• Prepare single-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, and relay logic documentation.
• Perform short-circuit, coordination, and arc flash studies; evaluate system performance.
• Review designs to ensure compliance with project requirements and standards.
• Support integration with SCADA, automation, and monitoring systems.
• Participate in FAT, SAT, commissioning, and energization activities.
• Coordinate with electrical, civil, structural, mechanical, and automation teams.
• Review vendor documentation and provide technical guidance on equipment.
• Support dam safety and hydropower modernization projects.
• Prepare technical reports, engineering calculations, and client presentations.
• Assist in project planning, budgeting, scheduling, and risk management.
• Provide technical support during construction and commissioning.
• Maintain effective client communication in English and French.
