International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Colombia seeks a Senior Project Associate to coordinate and monitor project delivery in the North-Eastern region. Formación

  • Bachelor’s degree in Political or Social Sciences, International Relations, Development Studies, Migration Studies, Human Rights, Law, or a related field with five years' relevant experience.
  • Alternatively, a High School diploma with seven years of relevant professional experience.

Responsabilidades

  • Coordinate and monitor the implementation of IOM projects in Colombia's North-Eastern region, ensuring effective delivery and compliance.
  • Lead and independently manage project activities, analyzing challenges and proposing field-ready solutions.
  • Research national/international developments and prepare briefing notes and reports.
  • Monitor budget expenditures and ensure alignment with donor requirements.
  • Plan and conduct capacity-building workshops and coordinate with government platforms and partners.
  • Prepare correspondence, presentations, and narrative/financial reports; supervise reporting staff.

Organizational context: The International Organization for Migration (IOM), established in 1951, is a leading intergovernmental organization dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration. It collaborates with governmental, intergovernmental, and non-governmental partners, providing essential services and advice. This role operates within the North-Eastern Region Projects in Colombia, reporting to the Chief of Mission and Head of Programmes.

Job purpose: The Senior Project Associate will play a crucial role in coordinating and monitoring the implementation of IOM projects within the North-Eastern region of Colombia. This position is vital for ensuring effective program delivery, operational coordination, and adherence to organizational procedures and project objectives. The associate will act as a key liaison for program implementation and field-level coordination, contributing directly to IOM's mission of promoting humane and orderly migration. The role involves independent leadership in project execution, problem-solving, and stakeholder engagement to achieve strategic goals.

Responsibilities: Coordinate and monitor the implementation of IOM projects in Colombia's North-Eastern region, ensuring effective delivery, operational coordination, and compliance. Lead and independently manage project activities, analyzing challenges and proposing solutions to adapt to field conditions. Research and analyze relevant national and international developments, reports, and legislation. Monitor budget expenditures and ensure financial, administrative, and technical aspects align with IOM policies and donor requirements. Plan and conduct capacity-building workshops. Participate in inter-agency coordination, technical working groups, and government platforms, liaising with local authorities, partners, UN agencies, and other stakeholders. Prepare correspondence, briefing notes, presentations, and narrative/financial reports. Document best practices and lessons learned to inform future project development. Supervise and train reporting staff, performing other assigned duties.

Education: A Bachelor's degree in Political or Social Sciences, International Relations, Development Studies, Migration Studies, Human Rights, Law, or a related field from an accredited institution is required, along with five years of relevant professional experience. Alternatively, a High School diploma with seven years of relevant professional experience is acceptable. Accredited universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database.

Work experience: Required experience includes liaising with governmental authorities, national/international institutions, UN agencies, and NGOs. Experience working with vulnerable groups such as migrants, refugees, and internally displaced persons is essential. Prior experience in international humanitarian organizations or multi-cultural settings is advantageous. Experience in coordinating and supporting project implementation, including operational, administrative, and financial aspects, is necessary. Field operations experience, particularly in migration, displacement, or emergency response contexts, is preferred.

Skills: Demonstrated knowledge of IOM administrative, financial, and operational procedures. Good understanding of migration-related programs. Ability to analyze operational information and propose solutions. Strong coordination, organization, and supervisory skills. Effective communication and interpersonal abilities for stakeholder liaison. Proficiency in standard computer applications. Ability to work effectively under pressure and in diverse cultural settings.
