EPAM Systems is seeking a Senior Java Developer in Colombia to design, build, and maintain backend services using Java, Spring Boot, and REST APIs. You will work with MySQL, model data, and help shape microservices architecture within a cross‑functional team.

You will contribute to code reviews, testing, security, and CI/CD practices, while collaborating with product stakeholders and QA engineers to deliver reliable, scalable solutions.

Formación

• At least 3 years of hands-on Java development experience.
• Strong design and implementation of REST APIs and microservices.
• Experience with MySQL data modeling, queries, and optimization.
• Familiarity with CI/CD, Git workflows, and secure API practices.
• Excellent written and spoken English (B2 or higher).

We are looking for a Senior Java Developer to join our team. The ideal candidate has strong hands‑on experience with Java backend development, Spring Boot, REST APIs, microservices, and relational databases. We are looking for someone who can work independently, understand existing systems quickly, contribute to technical decisions, and collaborate effectively within a cross‑functional engineering team.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain backend services using Java
• Develop and enhance REST APIs supporting mobile applications and integrations with external systems
• Work with MySQL, including data modeling, query development, optimization, and troubleshooting
• Contribute to the design and evolution of scalable and maintainable backend and microservices architecture
• Implement clean, reliable, secure, and well‑tested code following software engineering best practices
• Investigate and resolve defects, performance issues, and production problems
• Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, estimation, and solution design
• Collaborate with mobile developers, product stakeholders, QA engineers, and other backend engineers to deliver end‑to‑end functionality
• Contribute to automated testing, observability, logging, and overall application reliability
• Leverage AI‑assisted development tools where applicable to improve development productivity, code quality, testing, and problem‑solving

Requirements

• A minimum of 3 years of hands‑on experience with Java and object‑oriented software development
• Strong understanding of REST API design and API development best practices
• Experience designing or working with microservices and distributed systems
• Good knowledge of MySQL, SQL, relational data modeling, and query optimization
• Understanding of software design principles, common design patterns, and clean code practices
• Experience with unit and integration testing and familiarity with modern testing frameworks
• Understanding of application security fundamentals, authentication, authorization, and secure API development
• Familiarity with Git‑based development workflows, CI/CD, and modern software delivery practices
• Experience troubleshooting production applications using logs, metrics, and other observability tools
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with the ability to take ownership of tasks through completion
• Good communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively in a distributed, cross‑functional team
• Excellent English language skills (B2 level or higher)

Nice to have

• Experience working within cloud environments for deploying, scaling, and managing backend applications
• Familiarity with AI‑assisted software development tools to support coding, testing, and problem‑solving tasks
