Job summary

EPAM Systems in Colombia seeks a Senior Data Software Engineer to shape data architecture and guide delivery across complex projects. You will collaborate with stakeholders and multi-national teams to deliver robust, scalable data solutions.

You will combine hands-on engineering with technical leadership, overseeing ETL/ELT pipelines, streaming systems, and data services while adhering to agile practices and delivery models.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of relevant experience in data engineering or data software engineering.
• Strong Python skills for data engineering tasks.
• Proficiency in SQL for data manipulation and querying.
• Experience with Apache Spark for large-scale data processing.
• English proficiency at B2 level or higher.

Responsibilities

• Architect and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines and streaming systems.
• Build data ingestion pipelines using Spark, Kafka, and related tech.
• Improve data delivery and redesign infrastructure for scalability.
• Design data services using Spring Boot, ReactJS, NoSQL, and API tools.
• Lead delivery governance and ensure quality across projects.
• Serve as delivery owner, coordinating with management and stakeholders.
• Provide technical leadership and ensure sound architecture for delivery.
• Write user stories and acceptance criteria in an agile workflow.
• Coordinate across disciplines to align delivery efforts.
• Ensure projects follow customer processes and agile methodologies.
• Establish a continuous delivery risk management strategy.
• Measure and improve delivery productivity over time.
• Mentor Data Engineers and support timely delivery.
• Perform production support and deployment activities.

We are looking for a Senior Data Software Engineer to join our team. This role combines hands‑on engineering with technical leadership, offering the opportunity to shape data architecture while guiding delivery across complex projects. You will work closely with stakeholders and engineering teams to ensure robust, scalable solutions are delivered consistently. If you enjoy balancing deep technical work with ownership of delivery outcomes, this position offers a great fit.

Responsibilities

• Architect and maintain the code base for ETL and ELT pipelines, along with large batch, micro-batch, and streaming systems
• Build the infrastructure required for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data from diverse sources using ADF, Spark, Kafka, or similar technologies
• Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements, such as automating manual tasks, optimizing data delivery, and redesigning infrastructure for greater scalability
• Design and implement data services solutions using technologies such as Spring Boot, ReactJS, NoSQL, and related UI and API tools
• Ensure governance of delivery management and production processes according to the selected delivery model
• Act as the single point of responsibility for delivery-related matters with top management and stakeholders, including escalations, upsells, and ramp-downs
• Provide technical leadership for delivery, ensuring a sound and future-proof architecture is planned and implementation meets required quality standards
• Write user stories and associated acceptance criteria within an agile/scrum workflow
• Coordinate across multiple disciplines and stakeholders to align delivery efforts
• Ensure projects are delivered in line with customer processes and methodologies, with strong familiarity in various delivery models and a focus on agile approaches
• Establish a continuous delivery risk management strategy that supports proactive decisions and actions throughout the delivery lifecycle
• Measure and improve delivery productivity over time
• Serve as a consultant to Data Engineers, supporting quality and timely delivery of their work
• Perform production support and deployment activities

Requirements

• A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience
• Strong core Python skills for data engineering tasks
• Proficiency in SQL for data manipulation and querying
• Experience with Apache Spark for large-scale data processing
• Familiarity with Anthropic Claude Code
• Experience with Databricks for data engineering and analytics workflows
• Excellent English proficiency (B2 level or higher)

Nice to have

• Experience with Apache Kafka for event streaming
• Familiarity with Java
