Athenaworks is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to mature the lakehouse architecture and own critical data systems. You will work across the full pipeline—from high-throughput streaming ingestion to Iceberg table design on S3 and Redshift-powered reporting. You’ll be a technical anchor, guiding design and production operations on a small team.

The role emphasizes ownership, collaboration, and strong JVM/Kotlin skills, with a focus on reliability, cost optimization, and cloud-native data tooling.

Formación

• 5+ years of data engineering experience in high-volume systems.
• Strong JVM experience with Java/Kotlin in production.
• Kotlin experience strongly preferred for streaming apps.
• Experience with streaming ingestion technologies (Kinesis, Kafka, Firehose).
• Experience with table formats on object storage (Iceberg, Delta Lake, Hudi).
• SQL skills for data warehouse models (Redshift/Snowflake/BigQuery).
• Python for data pipeline tooling.
• Airflow for pipelines.
• AWS (S3, IAM, Redshift) knowledge.
• Ownership of production systems, monitoring, cost awareness.
• Strong communication and independent work in a small team.

Responsabilidades

• Design, build, and operate streaming data pipelines (Kinesis, Firehose) for high-volume traffic.
• Own and evolve S3 + Iceberg raw data layer: design, partitioning, schema evolution.
• Build and maintain curated aggregates and fact tables in Redshift.
• Contribute to Kotlin-based event registration and streaming applications.
• Improve reliability, observability, and data quality across the pipeline.
• Make architectural recommendations as we scale the lakehouse.
• Partner with analysts to meet reporting needs.
• Mentor engineers to raise data engineering practices.
