Your resume and cover letter, tailored to exactly what they’re hiring for.
Mappa is seeking an FP&A professional to work across multiple client engagements, owning models, budgets, and reporting that inform strategic decisions with founders and executives.
You’ll deliver dashboards, board materials, and diligence data for fundraising, while optimizing close processes and ensuring GAAP compliance. This role blends analysis with strategic finance across busy engagements.
We champion diversity in entrepreneurship by connecting businesses to affordable, community-focused lenders. Our tech-driven solutions prioritize your needs, offering low interest rates and saving you valuable time. Join us to make a real impact!
We run the finance function for fast-growing companies. Under one flat monthly fee, we cover strategic finance, controllership, accounting and tax for our clients. Our workflows are automated, and a person reviews every number before it goes out. Demand for our full controllership engagements is growing quickly, and we’re expanding the team that delivers them.
This is a role for someone who wants a seat at the table, not just a spreadsheet. Clients bring us in to fill roles like Director of Strategic Finance or Controller. You’ll be the right hand to our Finance Lead and own the models, close and reporting that clients rely on. You’ll work directly with founders, CEOs and COOs on decisions that shape their companies: budgets, fundraising, pricing and cash.
You’ll support several client engagements at once, each at a different stage. One week you might be onboarding a new client’s books, and the next you might be preparing materials for a Series B raise. You’ll report to the Finance Lead and work closely with our accounting and tax teams.
Build and maintain each client’s financial model (assumptions, drivers, forecasts and scenarios) as the single source of truth.
Prepare budgets and rolling forecasts tied to the client’s business drivers.
Run scenario analysis for growth, pricing and capital allocation decisions.
Deliver monthly variance analysis with clear, forward-looking commentary.
Set up KPI frameworks tied to each client’s OKRs and keep their dashboards current.
Turn operating data into financial insight on margins, cost-to-serve and cash flow.
Draft monthly and quarterly board materials, which the Finance Lead refines with client leadership.
Support fundraising with models, investor materials and diligence data rooms.
Run or review month-end and year-end close and produce GAAP financial statements.
Design revenue recognition around each client’s process and contracts.
Track cash, working capital and weekly AR/AP aging.
Prepare schedules and answer questions for external auditors, and coordinate with our tax team.
Onboard new clients: review their books, systems and processes, and map where time and errors go.
Redesign close, billing, AR/AP and expense workflows so they run faster with fewer manual steps.
Automate recurring work with integrations and AI tools like Claude, while keeping human review of exceptions.
Set up internal controls and financial policies that scale as each client grows.
Review bookkeeping and reconciliation work and resolve issues flagged by our review tools.
Track the results: days to close, error rates and hours saved.
Turn what works on one engagement into templates and playbooks for the next.
3 to 6 years in FP&A, corporate finance, accounting advisory, investment banking or a startup finance team.
Strong three-statement modeling skills: you can build a driver-based model from scratch and explain every assumption.
Solid GAAP knowledge, including accruals, revenue recognition and the month-end close.
Advanced Excel or Google Sheets skills.
Clear writing and speaking: you can explain a variance or a forecast to a founder who isn’t a finance person.
The organization to handle several clients and deadlines at once without dropping details.
A bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics or a related field.
CPA, CFA or progress toward either.
Experience at a client-facing firm (Big 4, outsourced CFO or accounting firm, consulting).
Fundraising experience: Series A or B models, investor decks or diligence.
Experience setting up finance systems or automating workflows.
Familiarity with service businesses with field teams, hourly payroll or project-based revenue.
Spanish or another second language.
Tools are central to how we work. We expect you to use them well and push them further. Day to day you’ll work in Excel, Google Sheets and Claude, plus each client’s stack: QuickBooks Online, Bill.com and payroll platforms such as Gusto or ADP. You’ll pick up new systems quickly and look for ways to connect and automate them.
Real impact, early. You’ll work directly with founders and executives on fundraising, pricing and cash decisions, the kind of exposure that usually takes years to earn.
Breadth that accelerates your growth. Several companies, industries and stages at once will build your judgment faster than one in-house role could.
A team that grows its people. We have a structured career path, and team members have been promoted from within. Our team describes the culture as collaborative and responsive, with real care for everyone’s well-being.
Modern finance, not manual finance. You’ll help shape how AI and automation change the finance function, and you’ll have room to build the playbooks others use.
You are likely a strong fit if you have 3 to 6 years in FP&A, corporate finance, accounting advisory, investment banking, or a startup finance team, and you can move comfortably between modeling, reporting, and controllership. You should be fluent in driver-based three-statement modeling, GAAP fundamentals, and advanced spreadsheet work, with the judgment to explain numbers clearly to founders and executives. This role will suit someone who is organized, responsive, and energized by owning multiple client engagements at once while improving the systems and playbooks behind the work.
