Job summary

Roca Alliances in Medellín, Colombia is seeking a Platform Engineer (Database SME) with strong SQL Server and DevOps experience to own the SQL Server environment and automate deployments. You will work with Git, CI/CD, and cloud familiarity (AWS/Azure) to keep production databases fast, secure, and resilient while supporting engineers in optimizing queries.

• Minimum 3+ years as a DBA, Platform/DevOps engineer or DBRE.
• Hands-on production SQL Server and T-SQL experience.
• Experience deploying database changes via Git and CI/CD pipelines.
• Scripting for automation: PowerShell, Python or Bash.
• English B2-C1 and Spanish proficiency.
• Based in Medellín or willing to relocate.

Responsibilities

• Design and test backup, recovery and disaster recovery strategies.

• Manage access and security (RBAC) and the change approval process.
• Join the 24/7 on-call rotation, resolve incidents and lead root cause analysis.
• Document procedures and decisions in the internal developer portal.

Platform Engineer (Database SME) | SQL Server + DevOps

Medellín, Colombia | On-site | Permanent contract

Are you a DBA who likes managing databases as code instead of by hand? Or a platform/DevOps engineer who knows SQL Server well? We want to hear from you.

Roca Alliances is hiring for a global SaaS company that makes field service management software and is growing its engineering team in Medellín. You'll be the SQL Server expert on the platform team. You'll keep production databases fast, secure and resilient, and help automate how they're deployed.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

• Own the SQL Server environment: performance tuning, indexing, upgrades, patching and migrations (including to AWS)
• Ship database changes as code through Git and CI/CD pipelines, not through manual changes in production
• Design and test backup, recovery and disaster recovery strategies
• Help developers optimize queries and data access

WHAT YOU BRING

• 3+ years as a DBA, Platform Engineer, DevOps Engineer or DBRE
• Hands-on production experience with SQL Server and T-SQL (2016 or earlier versions count)
• Database changes managed in Git and deployed through pipelines (Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, GitLab or Jenkins)
• Scripting for automation: PowerShell, Python or Bash
• Strong troubleshooting in production environments
• English B2-C1 (you'll use it every day with the engineering team) and Spanish
• Based in Medellín or willing to relocate

NICE TO HAVE

• AlwaysOn Availability Groups
• AWS (preferred cloud) or Azure
• Flyway, Liquibase, Redgate, DACPAC or DbUp
• Terraform or other Infrastructure as Code
• Linux and networking basics (VPC, DNS, load balancers)
• PostgreSQL or MySQL
