We're growing our network of consultants and are looking for thoughtful, collaborative operations and HR consultants to join our roster of subcontractors. This is not a full-time position. Instead, you'll have opportunities to collaborate on a variety of partner projects as needs arise.
We're looking for an experienced nonprofit finance professional who is collaborative, practical, values-driven, and skilled at helping organizations build strong and sustainable financial systems.
The ideal candidate is a trusted advisor to nonprofit executive directors, boards of directors, and senior leadership teams, with experience strengthening organizational budgets, financial reporting, accounting systems, internal controls, grant compliance, and fiscal policies. You are comfortable providing strategic financial guidance while also offering hands-on support to develop and implement financial systems, policies, processes, and tools.
Success in this role requires sound judgment, deep nonprofit financial management expertise, strong analytical and communication skills, and the ability to move between financial strategy and hands-on implementation.
Depending on the project, consultants may support partners across the following areas:
Design and facilitate trainings, workshops, retreats, and learning sessions for nonprofit staff, leaders, and boards.
Facilitate learning related to budgeting, financial management, internal controls, grant management, QuickBooks Online, and other financial topics.
Develop training materials, including presentations, facilitator guides, workbooks, exercises, templates, and job aids.
Deliver virtual and in-person learning experiences that are engaging, practical, and responsive to organizational needs.
Develop customized organizational documents including:
Manage multiple consulting assignments and partner relationships simultaneously.
Develop and manage project workplans, timelines, deliverables, and project tasks.
Communicate regularly with partners and project teams about progress, decisions, challenges, and next steps.
Collaborate with project leads and multidisciplinary team members to ensure high-quality, timely deliverables.
Develop financial assessments, recommendations, policies, reports, tools, and other partner deliverables.
Contribute to proposals and consulting project scoping as opportunities arise.
10+ years of experience in nonprofit finance, accounting, financial management, grants management, consulting, or related areas.
Significant experience working with nonprofit, community-based, or other social impact organizations.
Strong experience in nonprofit financial management, budgeting, financial reporting, internal controls, and grant management.
Experience advising nonprofit leaders and/or boards on financial and compliance matters.
Experience assessing financial systems and developing practical recommendations, policies, procedures, controls, and financial management tools.
Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting principles, GAAP, and grant financial management.
Strong analytical, writing, communication, and project management skills, with the ability to translate complex financial information into clear, practical guidance.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively, manage multiple projects and deadlines, and build trusted relationships with partners.
Demonstrated commitment to equity, community, and social justice.
Ability to travel occasionally, as needed, and access to your own computer, reliable internet connection, and remote workspace.
Strong working knowledge of several of the following:
Experience serving as a nonprofit CFO, Finance Director, Controller, or senior financial leader.
CPA, MBA, MPA, accounting degree, or other relevant education or professional credential.
Experience working alongside BIPOC communities; experience with AANHPI communities is strongly preferred.
Experience supporting proposal development or consulting project scoping.
