Overview
The Manager, Software Engineering is primarily responsible for the delivery and quality of services in their product team, as well as the culture and morale of the team. The role ensures that high‑quality services are delivered on time, monitored and maintained, and that team members receive clear expectations and timely feedback.
What You’ll Do
- Lead delivery of sprint and quarterly goals
- Create clarity for the team (sprint, team, and career goals)
- Solve problems within the team and communicate proactively with proposed solutions
- Identify and clear bottlenecks and roadblocks for the team
- Sustain learning from failures and encourage the team to learn from them
- Take ownership of production incidents for services owned by the team
- Ensure all agreed engineering best practices and defined processes are followed
- Facilitate improvement of the delivery process
- Listen to feedback from the team
- Listen to feedback from Product Owner, SEM, and Head of Delivery
- Provide feedback to those stakeholders about inefficiencies in the current process
- Ensure that improvement ideas are implemented or followed up on why they did not pan out
- Help the Product Owner succeed in creating specs and scoping of features
- Give early and frequent feedback on specs
- Drive scoping of sprints with the team using input from the Product Owner
- Help break down large deliverables into manageable, independently valuable chunks
- Promote and enable tackling of technical debt and technical roadmap items
- Drive and monitor technical excellence within the team
- Understand and cater to personal needs of each team member
- Manage morale and motivation within the team
- Lead recruiting efforts and make headcount recommendations for the team
What You’ll Bring
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
- 3+ years working in a senior development or managerial capacity in a software delivery environment
- Track record of applying software engineering practices and the software development life cycle to deliver features
- Track record of using Jira and Confluence to manage software delivery and successfully deliver features
- Capability to participate in high‑level technical discussions
- Proven experience diagnosing and resolving complex problems
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work under pressure in a fast‑paced environment, showing flexibility and adaptability
- Experience prioritizing and managing multiple tasks and projects effectively
- Experience reviewing business requirements and translating them into delivery plans
- Excellent communication skills, including presenting technical information to non‑technical stakeholders and facilitating meetings
- Proven history of mentoring and coaching team members to improve performance
- Comfort in managing team members with diverse skill sets
- Ability to travel occasionally, both domestically and internationally
