EPAM Systems in Colombia is seeking a Lead AI Engineer to join a globally distributed team transforming insurance technology with agent-based AI systems.

You will design, build, and deploy enterprise AI platforms, mentor peers, and drive end-to-end product development from concept to production, ensuring scalable, auditable solutions.

Formación

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent.
• At least 5 years in software engineering, AI/ML, or related fields.
• At least 1 year of experience leading development teams.
• Proficient in Python and TypeScript.
• Proven track record shipping AI-powered products.
• Experience with CI/CD and containerized deployments.
• Strong analytical and communication skills; able to explain complex tech to business.
• Excellent English communication (B2 level or higher).

We are looking for a Lead AI Engineer to join our team. Our client is in the midst of a significant transformation of its insurance technology approach, transitioning from legacy platforms to sophisticated, agent-based AI systems. In this role, you'll join a globally distributed team focused on constructing smart platforms that simplify complex insurance functions, giving brokers more room to focus on strategic thinking and cultivating client relationships.

Responsibilities

• Recognize meaningful opportunities to apply AI across various functions within the Insurance Broking domain
• Design, build, and deploy enterprise-grade AI platforms aimed at simplifying intricate insurance processes
• Build AI-driven tools that harness LLMs, RAG, document processing, data extraction, classification methods, and agent-based system design
• Collaborate directly with brokers, underwriters, and operations personnel to surface challenges and engineer solutions built for scale
• Take ownership of the full AI product journey, from concept development and prototyping through launch, performance tracking, and continuous enhancement
• Develop rigorous testing and evaluation frameworks for AI systems, including performance benchmarking, monitoring, and hallucination detection capabilities
• Spearhead rapid experimentation cycles and drive forward-thinking practices grounded in current AI development standards
• Increase operational throughput, minimize turnaround periods, and drive greater business productivity via intelligent automation solutions
• Offer mentorship and technical guidance to engineering peers, promoting reliable approaches to AI system development
• Stay ahead of emerging AI trends and apply new technologies to address insurance-specific business problems

Requirements

• A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or an equivalent field, or comparable practical experience
• At least 5 years of relevant professional experience in Software Engineering, AI/ML, Machine Learning, or adjacent disciplines
• A minimum of one year of experience leading and managing development teams
• Proficient working knowledge of Python and TypeScript
• Proven history of guiding AI-powered products from conceptual stages through to full-scale production launch
• Hands-on background applying machine learning models and Large Language Models (LLMs) within practical use cases
• Familiarity with modern software engineering techniques, including CI/CD workflows and containerized deployment
• Strong analytical mindset, effective problem-solving skills, and clear, confident communication
• Ability to convey complex technical concepts in language accessible to business stakeholders
• Excellent English communication skills (B2 level or higher)

Nice to have

• Working knowledge of (Re)Insurance Underwriting Operations to build stronger context around industry workflows
• Understanding of Infrastructure as Code principles, with particular attention to security, to enable reliable and secure environment configuration
• Previous experience working within the Insurance industry to strengthen the relevance of AI solution design
• Practical experience with Monitoring and Observability platforms to maintain ongoing insight into system behavior after deployment
• Demonstrated Technical Leadership background, including team direction and shaping long-term engineering strategy
