EPAM Systems is seeking a Lead AI Engineer to join our team and spearhead an overhaul of an insurance technology framework with enterprise AI platforms. You will design, implement, and scale AI solutions that reduce complexity in insurance workflows, collaborating with brokers, underwriters, and operations.

Strong leadership and production ML experience are essential. The role requires advanced Python/TypeScript skills, CI/CD and containerized environments, and excellent English communication.

We are looking for a Lead AI Engineer to join our team. Our client is undertaking a substantial overhaul of its insurance technology framework, moving beyond conventional systems toward advanced, agent-powered AI architecture. This position places you within a geographically diverse team dedicated to engineering intelligent platforms that ease the burden of complex insurance operations, freeing brokers to invest more time in strategic thinking and building lasting client relationships.

Responsibilities

• Uncover impactful ways to weave AI into different areas of Insurance Broking activity
• Plan out, develop, and launch enterprise-scale AI platforms built to reduce complexity in insurance workflows
• Construct AI-powered solutions that draw on LLMs, RAG, document handling, data extraction, categorization approaches, and agent-centric architecture
• Team up directly with brokers, underwriters, and operations teams to uncover obstacles and design solutions capable of scaling
• Hold end-to-end responsibility for AI products, spanning early ideation and prototyping to deployment, performance oversight, and continual improvement
• Establish robust testing and assessment structures for AI platforms, covering benchmark performance, ongoing monitoring, and identification of hallucination issues
• Lead swift experimentation efforts and advance progressive methodologies aligned with contemporary AI engineering trends
• Elevate operational capacity, reduce time-to-completion, and improve overall business results through smart automation strategies
• Serve as a mentor and technical resource for fellow engineers, encouraging dependable methods for AI system construction
• Track evolving AI capabilities and put new technology to work solving problems particular to the insurance domain

Requirements

• A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a similar area, or equivalent hands-on background
• A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in Software Engineering, AI/ML, Machine Learning, or closely related fields
• At least one year spent leading and overseeing development teams
• Strong practical grasp of Python and TypeScript
• Established track record of steering AI-powered products from early concept stages through to complete production deployment
• Real-world experience implementing machine learning models and Large Language Models (LLMs) in operational contexts
• Awareness of current software engineering methods, including CI/CD processes and containerized environments
• Solid analytical abilities, dependable problem-solving instincts, and confident communication skills
• Talent for presenting technical ideas in a manner that business audiences can readily grasp
• Excellent English communication skills (B2 level or higher)

Nice to have

• Background knowledge of (Re)Insurance Underwriting Operations to enhance familiarity with sector-specific processes
• Grasp of Infrastructure as Code concepts, with an emphasis on security, to help ensure consistent and secure environment setups
• Earlier work experience in the Insurance sector to add depth and relevance to AI solution development
• Direct experience using Monitoring and Observability tools to sustain visibility into system performance following release
• Proven Technical Leadership experience, including steering teams and defining long-range engineering direction
