About the Role
We are seeking an experienced FinOps Engineer to play a crucial role in enhancing operational excellence across our hybrid infrastructure spanning AWS, multi-cloud, and colocation environments. This position is essential for achieving greater visibility, accountability, and optimization of our infrastructure expenditure. You will build the necessary dashboards, allocation models, and reporting frameworks to provide insights into our cost-to-serve per customer, feature, and region. Your work will enable informed strategic decisions from our leadership team and help maintain healthy product margins. Collaboration will be key, as you will partner with Finance, Engineering, and Product teams to translate financial data into actionable insights. The role directly impacts our decision-making process regarding infrastructure investments and supports the overall mission of Smart Communications to deliver seamless and secure customer experiences.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop executive dashboards and board-ready reports to track infrastructure spend, cost trends, margins, and unit economics.
- Create showback and chargeback models; conduct regular cost reviews with Engineering, Product, and Finance teams.
- Optimize and manage AWS, multi-cloud, and colocation costs utilizing appropriate tooling, tagging, and account structures.
- Consolidate cloud and colocation financial data into a unified model encompassing usage, facilities, connectivity, and hardware lifecycle.
- Identify and implement cost optimization opportunities, including rightsizing, reserved capacity, and vendor management.
- Model Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) and analyze budget variances while forecasting future expenditures.
- Present clear commercial insights derived from infrastructure cost data to Finance, Engineering, and senior leadership.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 3 years in FinOps, Cloud Financial Management, or Infrastructure Finance roles.
- Proficiency in AWS cost management tools such as Cost Explorer, Cost and Usage Reports (CUR), AWS Budgets, and Savings Plans.
- Experience managing costs across multiple cloud providers (AWS, Azure, GCP) and colocation environments.
- Understanding of colocation cost factors including rack space pricing, power and cooling costs, and hardware depreciation.
- Ability to build executive dashboards using visualization tools like Tableau, Power BI, or Grafana.
- Experience in financial modeling, including unit economics and margin analysis.
- Strong business acumen with a capability to communicate technical cost data to board-level stakeholders.
- Proven track record of stakeholder management and experience presenting to C-suite and cross-functional teams.
Preferred Skills
- FinOps and AWS certifications, such as FOCP, Cloud Practitioner, or Solutions Architect.
- SaaS/ISV experience with multi-tenant cost allocation and hybrid infrastructure.
- Familiarity with ITFM/TBM frameworks, ITSM/CMDB tools, and asset lifecycle management.
- Experience with FinOps tools like CloudHealth or nOps.
- Knowledge of cost attribution related to EKS/Kubernetes and data center migration.
FinOps Responsibilities
- Drive cloud cost optimization and allocation strategies.
- Conduct financial reporting and KPI reporting for cloud investments.
- Manage budget and forecasting processes related to cloud spend.
- Implement a tagging strategy for cost governance.
