Descripción del empleo

About Us
At Bienenstock Natural Playgrounds, we connect children with nature by creating natural play opportunities that emphasize creativity, interaction, and pedagogy. Our team is a diverse group of designers, educators, fabricators, and constructors, dedicated to fostering natural curiosity, creativity, and a sense of adventure through our playgrounds and educational initiatives. We are dedicated to designing natural playgrounds that benefit both communities and the environment.

Position Overview
Imagine leading a team to build playgrounds where children’s imagination runs wild, where they can climb trees, dig in the dirt, and engage with the natural world in ways that matter. At Bienenstock, you'll be part of a team that combines sustainability with play, creating a lasting impact on the next generation.

As our Landscape Construction Foreman/Woman, you will take the lead in constructing our unique, natural playgrounds that go beyond swings and slides. You will guide your team through the installation of natural elements like boulders, climbing features, and plants, transforming outdoor spaces into vibrant environments that spark creativity and adventure for kids of all ages. Working closely with the Project Manager, you will assist in planning, organizing, executing, and documenting the builds while adhering to the highest standards of quality and safety.

You are a seasoned landscaper who has enjoyed working in the field but is ready to become more involved in the behind-the-scenes of projects, including project planning and crew building for the coming seasons.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Project Leadership
    • Lead the installation of natural play spaces and outdoor classrooms, ensuring projects are executed according to plans and specifications.
    • Work closely with the Project Manager and Chief Operations Officer (COO) to plan and organize all phases of the build, from mobilization to completion.
    • Utilize project management software to monitor project timelines, budget adherence, and crew performance to ensure successful project delivery.
  2. Team Management
    • Delegate tasks and responsibilities to crew members while providing direction, motivation, and discipline as needed.
    • Schedule crew members to optimize productivity and ensure all tasks are completed within the project deadlines.
    • Support with the planning, hiring, and building of crews for future seasons.
    • Foster a collaborative team environment by providing guidance and support to ensure high-quality work.
  3. Safety and Compliance
    • Enforce all health and safety policies on-site, ensuring that the crew follows protocols and are working safely at all times.
    • Conduct safety briefings and inspections, addressing any potential hazards before work begins each day.
  4. Materials and Equipment
    • Order and manage the delivery of materials and equipment for each project phase.
    • Operate machinery (e.g., Mini-Ex, Skid Steers) and power tools in a safe manner.
    • Oversee the proper use of power tools and equipment, maintaining compliance with safety standards.
  5. Communication and Reporting
    • Maintain clear communication with the COO, even when the Project Manager is not on-site.
    • Provide daily updates on project progress, timelines, and any issues that arise, ensuring transparency and proactive problem-solving.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years’ experience working in the landscaping or construction industry, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.
  • Expertise in reading blueprints and site plans, ensuring projects are built to exact specifications.
  • Familiarity with project management software.
  • Experience operating machinery, including Mini-Ex, Skid Steers, and other power tools.
  • A passion for working outdoors and a commitment to high-quality craftsmanship.
  • Strong organizational skills and experience in workflow planning.
  • Ability to travel for projects within Canada (up to 2-3 weeks at a time), including working Saturdays when required.
  • Able to lift 50 lbs. and perform physically demanding tasks.
  • A valid G license and a clean driver's abstract.
  • Chainsaw operation experience and a valid AR license are nice to have but not required.
