The Senior IT Manufacturing Execution Systems Manager manages the specialist IT MES team involved in the deployment of Medtronic’s next-generation MES (Manufacturing Execution System) from Critical Manufacturing. This role is a key member of our Global Manufacturing Digital Transformation leadership team and is remote-based in Colombia.
Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
- Ensuring continuous operation of the MES system, minimizing downtime, and supporting manufacturing operations.
- Overseeing system configurations, customization, DevOps development, and integration of MES with other enterprise systems, aligning with business goals.
- Monitoring MES performance and proactively addressing bottlenecks or failures impacting production efficiency.
- Leading incident resolution and restoring MES functionality to minimize disruptions.
- Acting as a liaison between IT and manufacturing teams to optimize MES performance and functionality.
- Managing relationships with MES vendors, ensuring SLAs are met, troubleshooting is efficient, and updates or customizations are delivered on time.
- Leading application of updates, patches, and version upgrades to maintain system security and reliability.
- Developing and testing disaster recovery strategies for MES.
- Managing ongoing support and resources to ensure effective MES user interaction and issue resolution.
- Ensuring MES compliance with industry regulations (e.g., FDA, ISO) and maintaining documentation for audits and improvements.
- Identifying opportunities to enhance MES functionality and streamline workflows for operational efficiency and cost savings.
- Communicating regularly with senior management and stakeholders regarding system health, incident reports, and improvement plans.
Required Knowledge and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Fluent in English.
- At least ten years of experience in manufacturing systems management and hands-on implementation in a DevOps environment.
- Proven leadership in IT projects related to MES implementation, upgrades, and integrations.
- Knowledge of MES platforms such as Critical Manufacturing, SAP ME, Siemens Op-centre, or Rockwell FactoryTalk.
- Experience managing IT infrastructure supporting MES, including servers, networks, and databases.
- Experience forecasting system growth and planning infrastructure expansion.
- Knowledge of databases like SQL and Oracle.
- Ability to lead and manage IT projects ensuring timely and within-budget delivery.
- Experience integrating MES with enterprise systems like ERP, PLCs, and SCADA.
- Deep understanding of manufacturing workflows and processes.
- Excellent communication skills for working with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work collaboratively in an agile environment.
- Ability to design and deliver user training on MES.
- Understanding of regulatory standards (FDA, ISO) and experience ensuring MES compliance.
