Job summary

Thermo Fisher Scientific in Colombia is seeking a Field Applications Scientist to support the sales team with technical initiatives in the pharmaceutical segment. You will lead field demonstrations, training, and troubleshooting, leveraging molecular spectroscopy to showcase our tools and solutions.

You will develop demonstrations, author technical notes with marketing, and provide feedback to product development.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Engineering or Biochemistry.
• Five years experience in spectroscopy related to pharmaceutical research or sales.
• Experience with Raman and NIR spectroscopy.
• Experience with handheld spectroscopy tools.
• Fluent English; other languages beneficial.
• Willingness to travel 50-75%.
• Proficiency with MS Office.
• Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly.

Responsibilities

• Support presales demonstrations and post-sales customer support functions to ensure successful customer outcomes.
• Research and author technical notes, white papers, application notes with marketing around industry applications of our tools.
• Maintain and catalog feasibility test reports from customer demonstrations.
• Provide technical leadership to sales and product management teams for better positioning of our technical solutions.
• Engage with industry thought leaders in developing new applications of our technology in the pharmaceutical industry.
• Provide technical consultation and support to product development and marketing teams for customer goals and new product developments.
• Attend and present in technical programs on our divisions products at trade shows and exhibitions.
• Maintain good relationships with our global technical community of applications.
• Collaborate with product support and marketing teams on training tools for customers and distributors.
• Act as a conduit for VOC exercises for Product Management and Marketing.

Key Responsibilities

As a Field Applications Scientist, you will support the commercial sales team on technical initiatives and priorities within the pharmaceutical product segment. Facilitate field-based product demonstrations, product training and product troubleshooting. The Field Application Scientist will gain a deep understanding of the product lines, our markets, and how to ensure customers are successful with our products. The candidate will work collaboratively with the sales team to identify clear customer needs and to facilitate the demonstration of technical feasibility for the division’s pharmaceutical industry solutions. Critical to this role is strong connection to our product organization to provide feedback to product development about the evolving needs of our customers and new products to better meet customers’ needs in the markets we serve.

• Support the sales organization in both presales demonstrations and post sales customer support functions to ensure successful customer outcomes.

• Research and Author technical notes, white papers, application notes in collaboration with our marketing teams around industry relevant applications of our tools.

• Maintain and catalog feasibility test reports from customer demonstrations.

• Provide technical leadership to the sales and product management teams for better positioning of our technical solutions in the market.

• Engage with industry thought leaders in the development of new applications of our technology in the pharmaceutical industry.

• Provide technical consultation and support to our product development and marketing teams in support of our customer’s goals and new product developments.

• Attend and present in technical programs on our divisions products at trade shows and exhibitions.

• Collaborate with the product support and marketing teams on the development of training tools for customers, distributors. Content will include web based training modules and videos.

• Act as a conduit for VOC exercises for Product Management and Marketing.

Required Education & Experience

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Engineering or Biochemistry. A MSc and PhD are a major advantage.

Experience

Five (5) years experience in spectroscopy related to pharmaceutical research, sales, or product support roles.

Five (5) years experience with molecular spectroscopy involving Raman and NIR. Experience with handheld spectroscopy tools and markets strongly preferred.

Experience scheduling and completing customer or channel partner visits.

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

• Working knowledge of chemometrics packages including Eigenvector Solo or PLS toolbox.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

• Ability to effectively communicate, both orally and in writing, to management, customers, and third parties.

• Demonstrated expertise in technical problem-solving and method development

• Clear written and verbal communication skills with ability to explain complex concepts to diverse audiences

• Strong presentation and training capabilities for both technical and non-technical audiences

• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a results-oriented environment

• Willingness to travel up to 50-75%

• Customer service orientation and interpersonal skills

• Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with internal teams and external customers

• Fluent English required; additional languages beneficial

• Valid driver’s license and passport required for travel
