Freeport McMoRan Inc. seeks a Chief Underground Geomechanical Engineer to lead geotechnical aspects of underground mine design, planning and execution from its Santiago base. The role will provide SME oversight and coordinate with operations across multiple sites.

The candidate will travel internationally for project work, mentor teams, and contribute to safety-focused engineering practices while preparing for a long-term U.S. placement in the organization.

Formación

• Bachelor’s degree in Geological/Geotechnical/Mining Engineering with rock mechanics focus and 7 years’ experience, including leadership.
• Master’s degree with five years’ experience and supervision experience.
• Experience as Geomechanical/Geotechnical engineer in underground mining operations or consulting.
• Knowledge of mining, rock mechanics, geology and geotechnical engineering.
• Strong analytical skills for complex designs and mine plans.
• Experience with numerical modelling to solve engineering challenges.
• Proficiency in MS Office, AutoCAD and geotechnical software.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; travel internationally is required.

Responsabilidades

• Oversee underground geotechnical aspects of mine design, planning and implementation.
• Review reports, analyses, designs, specs, and cost estimates; provide recommendations.
• Monitor underground excavation stability and rock mass parameters; support design oversight.
• Lead strategic plans for safe execution of mine designs and production plans.
• Coordinate with site managers; supervise SMEs on large/complex projects.
• Manage contracts and oversee geomechanical data acquisition and analyses.
