Bechtel is seeking a Process Engineer for Water Plants in Santiago. The role focuses on developing design bases, process descriptions, flow diagrams, and mass balances for water treatment projects, including desalination and ultra-pure water applications.

English and Spanish fluency required; travel and in-person collaboration may be needed. The position supports part-time telework with at least three days per week on-site attendance, collaborating with Bechtel offices in Houston and New Delhi

Formación

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering from an accredited college or university.
• 8+ years of relevant design experience in water treatment.
• Full professional fluency in Spanish and English.
• Previous site experience preferred.

Project Overview

Increasing production of critical minerals provides key components of clean energy technologies, from wind turbines to batteries. This shift to clean energy - and the need for commodities - is critical to underpinning the energy transition. At Bechtel, our teams extract these vital resources to support net zero in a way which is more sustainable than ever before.

Job Summary

The Process engineer main responsibilities will be to develop design bases and criteria, process descriptions, process flow diagrams and material balances, P&IDs, equipment sizing, equipment list, chemical dosing system sizing, operation and control philosophies, OPEX reports, etc for the Water Plants Scopes.

The Process engineer will have extensive knowledge in water treatment including applications such as desalination, contacted water, sanitary water, ultra-pure water, industrial wastewater.

The Process Engineer will interact and participate in meetings regularly with other Bechtel offices, mainly those in Houston and New Delhi. Interaction and meetings with other Bechtel offices are conducted in English.

This position is designated as part-time telework per our global telework policy and may require at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project. Weekly in-person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with functional or project leadership.

Major Responsibilities

• Developing deliverables of the discipline with minimal supervision.
• Coordinating engineering efforts in assigned areas between the specialty and other engineering groups or disciplines, with the client, suppliers and contractors and among other groups.
• When delegated, assuming a technical leadership role over other engineers or subgroups of the project to complete specific tasks.
• Preparing or assisting in the preparation of conceptual studies, designs, reports or proposals.
• Preparing or assisting in the preparation of cost estimates, quantity calculations and staffing requirements for proposals, forecasts and change orders.
• Reviewing and checking the work of peers.
• Participating in risk, HAZOP, maintainability, constructability workshops.
• Fostering a working environment that promotes transparency, trust, communication, teamwork, training, innovation and motivation.

Education And Experience Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering from an accredited college or university
• 8+ years of relevant design experience in water treatment
• Full professional fluency in Spanish and English
• Previous site experience preferred

Required Knowledge And Skills

• Knowledge and/or experience in water treatment technologies and equipment, for applications such as desalination, contacted water, sanitary water, ultrapure water, among others. Knowledge of water chemistry. Experience in membrane projections using specialized software.
• Practical experience in design as a process engineer. Experience in the field will be valued.
• Knowledge of the application of engineering to plant constructability, applied to construction methods and materials.
• Knowledge of current computer applications for engineering and design.
• Knowledge of engineering planning and control methods.
• Knowledge of the roles played by other departments on projects, including basic construction practices and economics.
• Knowledge of industrial or regulatory codes and standards and design criteria relevant to the engineering discipline in question.
• Coordination with other Engineering disciplines and other functions such as project control, procurement, construction, as required.
• Able to develop the own deliverables of the discipline and support the deliverables of other engineering disciplines.
• Able to produce a well-structured report in which various options are logically evaluated and a recommendation is presented.
