Las Campanas Observatory in Chile is seeking a full-time Operations Engineer / Scientist to support operations of astronomical telescopes. Candidates should possess an advanced degree in astronomy, physics, or engineering, and fluency in English and Spanish.

The role involves maintenance and support of telescopes for ongoing scientific research and requires the ability to work at high altitude in a collaborative team environment. Applications should include a desired salary range.

Formación

• Experience in operations support and troubleshooting in an observatory or scientific environment.
• Knowledge of control systems and PLCs desired.
• Ability to work at 2,300 m altitude.

Responsabilidades

• Maintain and support operations of Carnegie telescopes.
• Work with a team of scientists, programmers, engineers and technicians.
• Occasional domestic and international travel.

Conocimientos

Fluency in written and spoken English & Spanish

Computer expertise in Linux/UNIX

Ability to communicate in a team environment

Educación

Advanced degree in astronomy, physics or engineering
