Las Campanas Observatory (LCO) in Chile is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Specialist to support servicing and maintenance of telescopes and their mechanical infrastructure. This full-time role involves troubleshooting, repairing failures, and participating in observatory upgrades. Requirements include an advanced degree in engineering and fluency in English and Spanish. The position offers a one-year fixed term with the option of renewal and provides housing and transportation from La Serena to the observatory.

Formación

• Advanced degree in engineering or a closely related field.
• Exceptional work experience may substitute for degree requirements.
• Engineering experience with large ground- or space-based optics may substitute for some degree requirements.

Responsabilidades

• Support servicing and maintenance of telescopes and mechanical infrastructure.
• Troubleshoot and repair failures as well as observatory upgrades.
• Assist in coating and washing of telescope mirrors and conducting tests.

Conocimientos

Fluency in written and spoken English

Fluency in written and spoken Spanish

Team communication and cooperation

Computer expertise in Linux/UNIX

Ability to work at 2300 m

Educación

Advanced degree in engineering or related field
