Role Purpose
As the British Council’s senior arts representative in Argentina, this role is at the heart of shaping and delivering our arts strategy in the country, while also contributing to the wider Americas regional agenda.
This is a leadership role that manages our dynamic arts portfolio in Argentina, driving the delivery of activities under three major global programmes: Culture Connects, Creative Economy, and Culture Responds to Global Challenges.
Working closely with the Country Director, Cultural Engagement Lead, and the Regional Arts Director (Americas), the postholder plays an important part in connecting the local arts scene with global opportunities. Regular engagement with our Global Arts management team and collaboration across countries in the region ensures influence decision making across regional Arts and regional Cultural Engagement.
Main Accountabilities But Not Limited To The Following
- Actively works across the matrix in the Arts network, empowering and enabling colleagues to collaborate on programmes, while promoting equity, diversity and inclusion.
- Is responsible for assuring quality and impact and managing issues and risks relating to relevant programme grants, partner agreements and supplier contracts.
- Uses digital platforms and technological advancements to improve efficiency, impact and quality of activity design and delivery.
- Manages relevant Arts portfolio day-to-day ensuring global standards on programme and contract management are achieved.
- Direct line management and matrix management support provided to Arts teams in country/across the region as required.
- Supports with planning process in the arts portfolio in country.
- Management of design, development, delivery and closure of projects and or programmes as relevant.
- Develops and nurtures internal relationships across Cultural Engagement to ensure strategic objectives are aligned, understood and achieved.
- Builds and maintains critical country partner relationships relevant to the Arts, and wider cultural sectors, to maintain an excellent understanding of relevant themes and issues in the arts and creative industries. Uses this insight to identify new opportunities and partnerships for the British Council, and build favourability for the UK.
- Builds and maintains a broad, diverse and dynamic network of key creative and cultural sector representatives in country, including artists, creative professionals, creative hubs, arts organisations, arts advocacy groups, intermediary and sector bodies, etc.
- Promotes and positions the diversity of the UK arts and creative industries sector in country.
- Ensures British Council’s value proposition and support to the UK arts sector in country is clear, agreed and communicated.
- Ensures that British Council’s reputation for quality and as a valued not-for-profit partner remains high and contributes to our organisational mission of building trust between the UK and other countries.
- Supports the development and management of relationships with strategic clients and partners.
- Applies due diligence requirements to potential partners.
- Coordinates research in country/regional context such as analysis of client and partner trends and opportunities.
- Manages network of associate advisors, consultants and partners.
- Embeds effective processes, standards and tools to support pipeline and consultant/partner relationship management.
- Manages or supports the development of high-quality bids/ proposals.
- Directly plans and controls specific cost variables (rather than the total budget) to meet established targets, ensuring compliance with all relevant corporate financial systems and processes.
- Using agreed financial procedures/templates, conducts monthly and year-end analysis and reporting on income and expenditure/profitability and risk/pipeline/actual performance versus plan targets.
Requirements Of The Role
- In depth understanding of creative economy in Argentina
- Understanding the use and implementation of new technology in the arts and creative economy
- Experience in business development for creative industries and the arts
- Extensive experience of working in with festivals
- Demonstrable expertise of programme management, ideally in the Arts sector
- Experience of embedding M&E into programme design to support development of systematic evidence
- Knowledge of UK and international policy in the sector
- Active and up-to-date network of senior level sector contacts
- Experience of collaborating effectively with others to develop solutions to issues where there is not an established framework
- Confident user of information technology (Word; Excel; PowerPoint), Microsoft 365 functionality and working knowledge of British Council SAP system (aptitude if recruiting externally)
- Able to manage delivery of digital events on basic platforms (Microsoft Teams) ensuring all corporate standards are met, including those for accessibility and safeguarding
- Ability to analyse relevant equality issues and identify opportunities to address these in the portfolio
- The British Council systems and global processes operate in English. Written and verbal proficiency in English at level B2 is required. C1 in Spanish is also required.

- Candidates are expected to live in Buenos Aires or at a commuting distance to the Remote Teaching Centre (our premises in Retiro), since the position requires to work according to the hybrid working policy.
