Job Summary:

This role, you will be responsible for managing direct reports and leading interdisciplinary teams to establish construction methods and support activities. Oversee the construction process, will review cost and constructability plans and specifications, manage corporate processes and procedures, and direct proposal preparation and study support. Their recommendations for studies, lessons learned, project evaluations and new methods will optimize the completion of project construction activities (constructability).

Major Responsibilities:

Chief Engineer of Construction:

  • Being proactively involved with the development of their teams through CPM, competency development/assessment and feedback, Performance Evaluation.
  • Developing and recommending the construction staffing plan for approval by the Construction Manager and prepares employee applications.
  • Directing the construction activities of GBU's assigned construction staff, ensuring compliance with GBU's Quality Management System.
  • Establishing working relationships with the GBU functional teams.
  • Approving the personnel requests delegated by the Construction Manager.

Construction Manager:

  • Providing consultation, technical guidance and direction to construction and other support functions.
  • Managing the successful completion of construction related activities of assigned projects.
  • Assisting in the development of the standard construction method.
  • Overseeing the review of standard drawings and specifications for constructability.
  • Reviewing and evaluating new methods and concepts.

Education and Experience Requirements:

It requires a Degree in Engineering (or international equivalent), 15 years of relevant experience or 19 years of relevant work experience, and experience in Mining (5 Years in the position of Area Manager).

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Extensive experience in industrial construction projects, managing personnel, providing leadership, maintaining good customer relations and developing talent within the project.
  • Ability to direct and manage work activities, ensuring that tasks are completed efficiently and effectively, that work methods are planned and executed safely, and monitoring the installation of materials and equipment to ensure compliance with requirements.
  • Understanding of engineering design documents, supplier documents and other technical documents.
  • Skills to coordinate with foremen, trade professionals and subcontractors to ensure smooth execution of tasks.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated commitment to the Environment, Safety and Health (ES&H).
  • Knowledge of the management of EPC/EPCM/PMC contracts. In-depth knowledge of construction activities as it relates to the disciplines of engineering, costing and scheduling, and contract administration.
  • Must be familiar with current industry quality standards.
  • Cross-functional experience in another function such as engineering, project control, procurement, contracts, etc. is preferred but not required.
  • General knowledge of performance management processes and planning.
  • General knowledge of cost management, including estimating and developing forecasts and change management.
  • Intermediate/advanced English.
  • Advanced use of Microsoft Office
