What it’s like to work at Topsort
Our team is all about straightforward communication, embracing feedback without taking it personally, and fostering a super collaborative environment. It’s a sports team that’s hyper focused on winning, collaborative internally, and competitive externally - never the other way around. We thrive on working in the open, lifting each other up, and getting things done with a sense of urgency. We're the kind of team that loves making bold choices, sharing extraordinary opinions, and maintaining a 100 mph pace. No endless meetings here – if it can be done today, we're all about getting it done today.
What is this role like?
We’re looking for an experienced Engineering Manager – Platform & Infrastructure to lead a cross-functional team responsible for the core components of our ad platform—ranging from backend auction systems and developer infrastructure to CI/CD tooling and cloud architecture. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in high-scale environments, leads with clarity and empathy, and loves working across disciplines to bring architectural vision to life.
You’ll manage backend, infrastructure, data, and frontend engineers—building scalable, real-time services in Go, Python, and Rust. You’ll also oversee the reliability and evolution of our core APIs, auction systems, and internal tooling that powers all Topsort engineering.
You will:
- Lead and mentor a high-performing team of engineers across backend, platform, and infrastructure
- Own the development of core systems like the Auction Engine, Information APIs, and developer tools
- Define and drive the technical roadmap for cloud infrastructure (GCP), CI/CD, monitoring, and platform scalability
- Guide backend architecture decisions involving distributed systems, microservices, and high-throughput environments
- Collaborate closely with product, design, and other engineering managers to ensure smooth planning and execution
- Champion engineering excellence: thoughtful system design, scalable abstractions, automation, and observability
- Lead incident response, root cause analysis, and long-term reliability planning
- Foster a strong team culture that prioritizes ownership, speed, and continuous improvement
Requirements
- 8+ years of software engineering experience, including 3+ years managing or leading engineering teams
- Deep understanding of distributed systems and backend architecture in cloud-native environments
- Hands-on experience with Go, Python, or Rust in production systems
- Experience building and maintaining platform components like APIs, CI/CD pipelines, and internal tooling
- Familiarity with Kubernetes, Terraform, GitHub Actions, and modern observability stacks
- Experience managing performance, scale, and reliability in production systems
- Excellent communication skills and experience working in fast-paced, remote-first environments
Nice to Have
- Previous experience in ad tech, auction systems, or financial tech
- Exposure to real-time data pipelines, streaming frameworks (Kafka, Flink, etc.)
- Familiarity with developer platform practices (service catalogs, GitOps, IDPs)
- Passion for mentoring engineers and cultivating inclusive team environments
What We Value
- Deep dive into details: Professionals who are not content with superficial answers and dive deeply into the details to uncover root causes and optimal solutions.
- Team first: A low need for individual recognition, always prioritizing collective results over personal credit.
- You thrive with ambiguity: Exceptional ability to tackle open-ended problems in unstructured environments, turning chaos into structured innovation.
- Adaptability: Willingness to learn, mentor, lead, and follow as the situation demands, fostering growth at all levels.
- Urgency: A disproportionate sense of urgency in execution, while keeping scalability and the creation of replicable processes in mind to ensure long-term success.
- Curiosity: Genuinely curious individuals who can quickly learn difficult concepts and apply them effectively.
