Project Overview
Mining and Metals:
Increasing production of critical minerals provides key components of clean energy technologies, from wind turbines to batteries. This shift to clean energy—and the need for commodities—is critical to underpinning the energy transition. Job Summary
In this role, you will lead and coordinate Control Systems and Instrumentation engineering activities for assigned projects or project areas. You will supervise engineering personnel, manage technical execution, support staffing and work-planning activities, and ensure engineering deliverables are completed in accordance with project requirements, applicable codes and standards, Bechtel procedures, schedule commitments, and budget objectives. You will provide technical leadership, coordinate with project stakeholders, and support the development of engineering personnel while promoting safe, reliable, constructible, and cost-effective project solutions.

Major Responsibilities

  • Plans, develops, directs, and participates in Control Systems and Instrumentation engineering activities on small to medium-sized projects or assigned portions of major projects.
  • Applies Engineering Department Procedures, design standards, guides, Bechtel Standard Application Programs, and project requirements.
  • Supervises, coordinates, and reviews assigned engineers, designers, and drafters; estimates staffing requirements, develops resource plans, and assigns work according to project priorities and schedules.
  • Prepares or oversees discipline estimates, work plans, budgets, schedules, and staffing plans, monitoring performance against approved requirements.
  • Provides technical input for procurement activities, including specifications, material requisitions, bid evaluations, supplier evaluations, and award recommendations.
  • Coordinates with clients, project engineering, other disciplines, suppliers, contractors, construction personnel, and Bechtel offices.
  • Reviews and approves calculations, design documents, drawings, supplier data, material specifications, technical evaluations, and change-order documentation.
  • Provides technical guidance, coaching, mentoring, training, and professional development opportunities.
  • Conducts or leads studies involving new technologies, engineering methods, systems, materials, and work processes relevant to the discipline.
  • Provides technical guidance and resolution of engineering issues raised by clients, suppliers, construction personnel, and stakeholders.
  • Assists in preparing and reviewing project procedures, design criteria, technical reports, proposals, forecasts, cost estimates, trends, and change documentation.
  • Monitors engineering quality, quantities, schedule performance, budget status, interfaces, and technical risks, communicating significant issues to management.
  • Promotes compliance with applicable codes, standards, project requirements, quality expectations, and approved division of responsibility.

Education And Experience Requirements
Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 10-13 years of relevant experience or 14-17 years of relevant work experience.

Required Knowledge And Skills

  • Extensive experience in Control Systems and Instrumentation engineering for industrial or Mining and Metals projects.
  • Strong knowledge of distributed control systems, programmable logic controllers, instrumentation systems, control valves, and industrial automation systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, supervise, coordinate, and review engineering activities, including staffing, budgeting, scheduling, work assignment, and performance monitoring.
  • Experience developing and reviewing design criteria, engineering calculations, specifications, material requisitions, technical bid evaluations, supplier documentation, and discipline deliverables.
  • Strong understanding of applicable industry codes, standards, regulations, engineering procedures, and design criteria.
  • Ability to coordinate technical activities across engineering disciplines, project functions, suppliers, construction teams, clients, and participating offices.
  • Demonstrated leadership, communication, mentoring, decision-making, conflict-resolution, and team-development skills.
  • Working knowledge of engineering work planning, cost control, schedule control, quantity development, change management, and technical risk management.
  • Proficiency in Smart Instrumentation or equivalent instrumentation engineering database and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Intermediate English proficiency.
  • Extensive experience with control-system and industrial communications architecture for Mining and Metals facilities.
  • Extensive experience with OT networks, industrial cybersecurity, Ethernet network design, and industrial communication protocols.
  • Extensive experience with CCTV, access control, fire detection, fiber-optic infrastructure, or other project-related supporting systems.
  • Extensive experience with DCS, PLC, SIS, SCADA, or packaged control-system procurement and integration.
  • Construction engineering, field engineering, commissioning, startup, FAT, SAT, or interoperability-testing experience.
  • Extensive experience coordinating engineering execution across multiple offices or participating entities.
