The Role & Department

As Genmab continues to build its commercialization presence across Europe, the Vice President, Business Operations Europe will play a critical role in establishing the commercial engine required to support future growth. Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Europe & Emerging Markets, this role will design and build from the ground up the regional commercial operating model, field operations infrastructure, field force effectiveness capabilities, governance, policies, tools, and performance management processes needed to enable compliant, scalable, and high-impact commercial execution across European markets.

Key responsibilities include:
Commercial Operating Model & Launch Readiness
  • Define and build the European Commercial Excellence & Operations model from scratch, ensuring the right capabilities, governance, processes, tools, and decision forums are in place before first launch.
  • Translate global portfolio, brand, and launch priorities into practical regional commercial execution plans that can be adapted by country teams across diverse European healthcare systems.
  • Establish launch readiness frameworks, scorecards, milestones, risk management routines, and executive reporting mechanisms to ensure commercial workstreams are coordinated and on track.
  • Partner with General Managers, Global Commercialization, Market Access, Medical Affairs, Finance, Legal, Compliance, and country teams to clarify roles, accountabilities, interdependencies, and readiness requirements.
Field Operations, Field Force Effectiveness & Sales Cycle Design
  • Build the field operations infrastructure required for future launches, including CRM set-up, territory design, account planning, targeting and segmentation, call planning, activity tracking, and field reporting.
  • Design the future sales cycle and customer engagement model, including how opportunities are identified, prioritized, planned, executed, followed up, measured, and continuously improved.
  • Define field force effectiveness standards, including coverage, frequency, account prioritization, productivity measures, coaching routines, incentive principles, and performance governance.
  • Develop commercial operations playbooks, launch checklists, templates, dashboards, operating rhythms, and common ways of working to enable consistent execution across countries.
  • Ensure sales operations processes are practical for a growing biotech environment, scalable across markets, and aligned with applicable compliance, regulatory, medical, and local market requirements.
Commercial Policies, Governance & Ways of Working
  • Establish the commercial governance model for Europe, including decision rights, escalation paths, performance review forums, business planning routines, and cross-functional launch readiness meetings.
  • Partner with Legal, Compliance, Medical, Regulatory, HR, Finance, and Global Commercialization to develop and implement the foundational commercial policies required before launch.
  • Define policies and standards for customer engagement, field activity, CRM use, promotional material processes, meeting governance, samples or materials where applicable, sponsorships, congress interactions, and documentation requirements.
  • Ensure all policies and processes are embedded through training, communication, monitoring, and continuous improvement, with clear ownership between regional and country teams.
Analytics, Insights & Performance Management
  • Build commercial analytics, forecasting, market research and business insights, and performance management capabilities to support data-driven decision-making from pre-launch through post-launch execution.
  • Develop executive dashboards and KPI frameworks covering launch readiness, field activity, customer engagement, business performance, market dynamics, sales cycle progression, and operational execution.
  • Partner with Finance, Market Access, Data/Digital/AI, and country teams to support forecasting, resource allocation, scenario planning, and performance review processes.
  • Identify commercial risks, opportunities, capability gaps, and operational bottlenecks, translating insights into clear recommendations and practical action plans for regional and country leadership.
Requirements:
Education
  • Master’s degree or equivalent advanced qualification in Life Sciences, Medicine, Pharmacy, Business Administration, Marketing, Strategy, or a related discipline.
  • MBA, PhD, MD, or other postgraduate qualification is preferred, particularly where combined with strong commercial leadership experience in oncology or specialty care.
  • Additional executive education in strategy, marketing, general management, digital transformation, or healthcare leadership is an advantage.
Experience
  • Extensive senior leadership experience in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or specialty care commercial operations, commercial excellence, sales operations, or launch excellence.
  • Significant experience building or scaling commercial infrastructure across multiple European markets, ideally in an organization preparing for its first launches or major commercial expansion.
  • Strong expertise in sales force effectiveness, CRM implementation, territory design, targeting and segmentation, account planning, field reporting, incentive principles, and commercial performance governance.
  • Proven experience establishing launch readiness frameworks, commercial policies, sales processes, operating rhythms, dashboards, and cross-functional governance in a matrixed environment.
  • Experience working closely with Global Commercialization, General Managers, Market Access, Medical Affairs, Regulatory, Legal, Compliance, Finance, HR, Data/Digital/AI, and country leadership teams.
  • Strong record of influencing senior stakeholders, clarifying accountabilities, balancing global direction with local market realities, and creating scalable ways of working across countries.
  • Oncology experience is preferred, particularly in environments where commercial capabilities, teams, systems, and processes have needed to be built from the ground up.
Personal Attributes
  • Strategic and operational leader who can move seamlessly from enterprise-level commercial design to practical implementation in markets.
  • Builder mindset, comfortable creating structure, processes, tools, governance, and clarity in a fast-growing organization where many elements do not yet exist.
  • Highly collaborative and influential, with the ability to align Global, regional, and country stakeholders around common standards while respecting local market needs.
